Obama wants us to have gay and lesbian athletes to bring home a gold or bronze from the Olympics, I guess not silver for some reason. He suggested not to boycott the Olympics, which is agreeable, but look at this hilarious sound bite from today's speech: "If Russia doesn't have gay or lesbian athletes, it will probably make their team weaker." There you have it. You need the superior athletic skills of gay people to boost the performance of the straights. Once again, another example of trying to be too PC making you just as much a bigot as you think you're actually not being.
Now, I'm not a fan of Obama's but what I think he meant by that may well be that If the best Russian athlete in any given discipline just so happens to be gay but he/she is forbidden to compete because of it; then that person, who may well have won a gold/silver/bronze medal, would be replaced by someone who is not capable of achieving the same level of success as that gay person. In other words, it's not that gay athletes are better but that the better athletes might be gay.
Yeah, I'm going off what he technically said and the literal meaning of it, not what he meant. So it's really just a gaffe. I don't think it's a big deal I just thought it was funny for some reason.
What he meant is even funnier than what he said because, so far as I know, no Olympic athlete has ever been officially asked his or her sexual orientation. It's funny because he's awkwardly straining to insert a political issue into a topic where it doesn't belong and where it's never been. Of course athletes are selected for their ability. National teams are all about winning. You may be sure there have been plenty of gay Olympians, but that no one ever asked or cared. If they did care, they kept their mouth shut rather than jeopardize their team's chances. Now, groping for leadership of a newly fashionable issue, Obama is finding gay rights questions everywhere he looks. Perish forbid that he should not appear in control of every rights issue!
But the President was specifically referencing the Summer Olympics which are not to be held in Russia - As per his comments the other night. If Russia wants to uphold the Olympic spirit, then every judgment should be made on the track or in the swimming pool or on the balance beam, and people's sexual orientation shouldn't have anything to do with it." So clearly he is not a bigot but a forward thinker who is already taking steps to ensure the US return to dominance in the 2016 Summer Games in Brazil.
Moi: " Hello, my name is Moi and I am heterosexual". Why should YOU need or get to know that. Is anyone else sick and tired of people wearing their sexuality on their sleeve? Except for the babe in the miniskirt I mean. If Gay and Lesbian Athletes must advertise their sexuality - Let them have a Lavender Olympics in San Francisco. It is wrong for the President to associate the Olympics and sexuality. It is wrong to be involved in these internal affairs of Russia. Moi
Political correctness is like a peak of a mountain. If you pass it, you simply descend right back down into racism. The peak is about perfect equality, not special privilege for anyone. The place where nobody is higher than anyone else. Obama seems to put certain groups on a pedestal, above others, like gays, blacks or Muslims... Irrespective of if they are minority groups or are discriminated against elsewhere, it's bigotry all the same. Same problem with affirmative action. In this speech, he was referring to the winter Olympics in Sochi Russia, as he was mentioning the proposed boycott in response to Russia's new anti-gay propaganda to kids law.
Obama is always campaigning 24/7 and this is typical of his style of inserting politics into everything. To him, it's more important to 'reach out' to a minority constituency to ensure their vote for his party than it is to represent all The People who really couldn't car less if an Olympic athlete is homosexual.
Gay and lesbian athletes are officially recognized as minorities, and should therefore be treated in accordance with their status. Like other minorities, they should always be granted preferential treatment whether or not they're qualified in a certain field of endeavor. For instance, if they fail miserably in a competition, they should be declared the winner anyway. This has been done before in olympic ice skating. The skater, a female minority from America, kept stumbling, falling and making rough mistakes in her routine. Judges claimed that she was skating to her personal, free-lance, "artistic" skating style and chose her as the winner.
So what happens if a gay or lesbian Olympian from the US wins the silver - will he get droned, audited, sent to Mexico with a box of rifles, or maybe a combination of all three?
Well, the problem with that view is that there are around 4% of people who have some kind of gay/lesbian issues. So, the odds of a gold or bronze medal winner being gay, if sexual orientation has nothing to do with it (and I'm assuming that it doesn't), would be around 4%. But Obama said it would probably make their team weaker. 4% is not "probably". 4% is "probably not".
I don't know... Although I do know he said the gold or bronze, I'm thinking he would still be cool with it if they win the silver medal nonetheless, as long as they are gay. Or black. If it's a straight guy, I imagine they will be sent to Guantanamo Bay for a life sentence w/o possibility of trial.
With lying, war crimes, treason and open warfare against Americans, it's easier to find bad in THIS PRESIDENT. Hitler was an animal rights activist, which is a good thing, but funny nobody ever mentions that.
