What percent of socialism/capitalism do you think is best?

Too often, the debate about capitalism vs. government etc. turns into an arbitrary debate where everyone agrees "well there needs to be a balance." But how much? Which side do you favor, and to what degree? Rather than being vague, let's actually do a standard.

Look at the second graph down, showing government spending as a percentage of GDP:



I find that disturbing. When the government makes up almost 40% of the economy, that's not even close to a capitalist economy. Granted, we're better off than the Euros in this regard but I personally choose 20% of our GDP being government. What do you choose?

 

My answer would be whatever percentage excludes crapitalism the most.

Well, that could be better than the anal insertion you get with crapitalism. Certainly arguable anyway. I think I'll hang here though and cheer on the collapse of Wall street and the death of crapitalism. Thanks for the suggestion though.

It all depends on what you deem as socialism.

I live in one of the few remaining socialist countries on this planet. Some people in these forums interpretation of socialism is way off key.

People who try to paint socialism as being so terrible... really don't know what they are talking about.

And the U.S.A. have never been purely "capitalist" either; we've always had a hybrid kind of thing going on. I believe we've been pulled too far to the "Right" over the last 30+ years; veering hard-Left for a bit, would be GOOD for this nation..

 

There is a vast difference between a country with social policies and programmes like most western developed countries and socialist Laos.
