Why did the media downplay the biker turnout?

    Serious question...

    http://thewildernessofmirrors.wordp...wonder-the-news-is-silent-on-this-revolution/

    From an article..

"Although they didn’t reach a goal of two million riders, thousands of bikers rolled through the Washington, D.C. area to mark the 12th anniversary of 9/11 on Wednesday."

But D.C. police estimated the turnout as 1.2 million. The line from LA was 55 miles long ans 4 lanes wide.

So serious question, why did the media not report on it?

The question really is why should they? Just because you think something is newsworthy does not make it so.

Notice how progressives use language to apply their spin.

"Short of 2 million riders" - sets up the premise that the group failed.

"thousands of bikers rolled through the Washington, D.C. area" - Notice they did not say "tens of thousands", or "hundreds of thousands". "Thousands" sounds like a small number, and will give the impression to many that as few as 2-3 thousand showed up.

The real number was well over a million. A million sounds like a big number, which is why they didn't report it.

They downplayed this because bikers showing up in Washington DC does not serve the left-wing agenda. The original plan was to have a million Muslims show up in DC to protest "discrimination" against them. No more than a hundred or so people showed up for that rally. A colossal failure. The biker movement was supposed to be in response to this Muslim agitation, and they pledged 2 million people, so that in the event that a million Muslims actually show up, they would still be outnumbered.

The left lost. They know it. They don't want you to know it. That's why they aren't talking about this.

Because it draws attention to the "bad muslims" protesting on 9/11, and its utter failure... and the general anti-muslim attitude of the patriotic bikers. It stokes a fire they have long been trying to be on the wrong side of.

The amazing success of the biker rally comes at a time when our president wants to go bomb the (*)(*)(*)(*) out of Syria to help Islamic Jihadists take over yet another country. This was a spectacular occurrence, reflecting patriots dissatisfaction with our leadership. It was stuffed... because the right, and let's be clear here... while in a crowd of 1.2 million, you are bound to run into a few democrats... these bikers are conservative, and right leaning independents. They are the bane of the liberal media. With coverage, they could have hit their 2 million no problem. This was a grass roots protest. The ONLY thing that got any coverage at all was that their permit was denied. It seemed mostly to be suggesting that bikers were going to tie up traffic all day and annoy everyone. As I predicted, the cops hooked them up anyway... because they love patriotic bikers, and needlessly jamming traffic all day was not in anyones best interest.

The more important question: "Given the obvious bias of the media, why would anybody believe the media about anything?"

patriotism is so uncool these days, if you want to be cool you have to hate America and everything it encompasses

They do this all the time. Understate numbers for things they don't agree with and overstate numbers of things they do agree with. It's called propaganda. It's their sharpest tool in the drawer to appeal to the dullest tools in their ranks.

We have more bikers showing up in Ocean City, MD for bikefest this weekend than showed in DC. We will see between 50 and 60 thousand.

I agree with your last sentence but I don't think patriotism is uncool. Unless one hangs with a bunch of stupid, young, punks and brain damaged, dyed-in-the-wool liberals, bigots and Communists who all think it's uncool.

Tell us who you know who think U.S. Navy SEAL operators are uncool?

    Hah!

It was newsworthy in Russia and the UK, just not here.

Tell me the last gathering of a million people that didn't make national news. I'll be waiting.

Not really. What's so uncool these days is to spout ignorant, jingoist nonsense and call it patriotism.
McCain summed it up best when asked about patriotism: you can't say that you love America and hate half of your fellow countrymen.

Patriotism is the one thing that liberals/progressives have no answer for. It's an intangible that consistently destroys their ideology of America loathing and cutting the American Dream down to size.

It's a non-news story. The MSM will not spend money on a story that will give them no return on their dollar. It got plenty of coverage on the internet so its not like it was completely ignored.

Yeah, the media is biased. Heck, if you have hundreds of whites and a few hundred blacks marching for a thug, the head lines will be millions march for peace and equality..

Liberal media sucks... but they are losing money and viewship; they will die ... but slowly...

    A couple of things.

There was no Fox coverage either. This massive rally was ignored by EVERYONE.

It is most certainly a newsworthy event. If the bikers had been black, and in the hundreds, it would have made the news for sure. Chances are there weren't even hundreds within the 1.2 million. Of course I think we know why that is.

I think the largest collection of birthers in one location did indeed deserve more press.

Actually, there was some Fox coverage of the event. The media may have ignored it, but you can be sure those in DC didn't. From what I'm hearing, the sound of the bikes could be heard above all other sounds in the city that day.

If the bikers had been black, the Right Wing's rhetoric would have been:

"Gangs known for drug dealing and massive drug and alcohol abuse, rape, fighting, assaults, murder and attacks on police and innocent people gathered to celebrate and party to threaten the very fabric of the USA's moral fiber."

No... the point of bringing this up is to suggest it is less simple than left vs right leaning media. The MSM barely mentioned it. Fox, one would expect, would be all over this. Outside of your rw radio guys... they were not. That is strange to me... and worthy of mention.

The bikers actually threatened to boycott Fox if they continued to ignore the story. It is... very odd.
