http://news.yahoo.com/signs-rising-illegal-immigration-us-160922194--politics.html Well, at least the article didn't refer to them as undocumented citizens like so many others have. Still bad news, though.
This shouldn't surprise anyone with the government pushing for citizenship for all illegals in this country and the Obama administration giving orders not to deport any illegals they find that hasn't committed a crime. They will be pouring in here to jump on the citizenship bandwagon.
Can you imagine how good life would be if we werent governed by people who despise us and want to destroy us? Change is possible, and it starts with getting rid of jews.
Actually, it's due to the economy getter better. Construction in many places is resuming after a long absence. Most illegals actually don't care about the citizenship thing.
Then why are we pushing so hard to make them citizens? Why don't we have those here sign up so we know how many and who are here and allow them stay and to work under our work laws in place now? Have them pay state and local taxes but not be elegible for federal aid or benefits. Anyone not on the list would be deported. Then redo our work program where we can bring in those willing to do jobs Americans don't want so that they can work here a few years and then go back. We then stop employers from paying poverty wages and under cutting Americans looking for work.
Well many of them come up for the summer to do construction, then head back home after the seasons begin to turn. It is an area that the media rarely focuses on. They will scream 1 million new illegal immigrants cross the border in 20XX - but fail to mention as many as 700,000 returned back over the border within 6 months
Well I think those rules already exist. My daughter is working in the US, has a 13 month contract with potential for a 6 month extension. After than she MUST leave the US. The company she is with explained this is a government requirement, not one of the company rules.
It does not appear that we are doing that. Not even Obama is suggesting we make the illegals citizens. But in any event, some illegals choose to stay. So the question becomes what you do about them. Rounding them up appears not to be an option. So do we keep doing what we are doing or find some middle ground? Who would sign up given our current laws? Would you? If we did indeed allow them to stay and work they would likely sign up. But current law does not allow that, so you work while staying off the grid. Would you pay taxes under that same arrangement? I sure as hell wouldn't. I lived in Panama and was not eligible for certain things. But I paid no taxes, so it was all good.
The neighborhood bordering where I work is heavily populated by Mexican immigrants. Almost all illegal. The fact is, very few of them have any desire at all to stay here. It's expensive, complicated in terms of laws, different culturally, etc. Plus, their families are back home. They work, send money home, and move back the forth across the border during the year. They want to legally work here, but truly don't care about a path to citizenship. If Mexico had better jobs they would happily stay there.
So the question becomes do we simply make the ability to get work permits easier, or raise the number of permits allowed, rather than some of the convoluted immigration reforms now being considered
It's funny that we have a reasonably good system for workers from India, Asia, etc. because they cannot very easily sneak in and we allow enough work permits. So they come in, register, get the work visa and stay through the end of it. Then it gets extended or they go home. But it's harder for Mexicans to do that, so they essentially forced to sneak in and work off the grid. Plus, they usually don't have jobs lined up, which is a requirement under those visas.
I think I just found a middle ground. I said nothing about rounding them up. I said just the opposite. Have them sign up so we know who and how many are here. Let them work under our work rules and pay city and state taxes as they will be using those facilities. Deport anyone else that isn't signed up or has a work permit. We change the current laws. Hell we already have been ignoring them by not arresting and deporting illegals. Not under the same arrangement. Those that are here would be covered by government work rules, which means employers couldn't pay less than min wage. Would have to pay for overtime. Provide safe working conditions and etc.
Sounds fine to me. They did round-ups in Panama all the time. If they can do it, we should be able to. And provided that getting in and getting permit is easy they will likely do it. The issue now is that we have so many illegals that the resources just don't exist to deport them all. We could, of course, allocate resources, but the lobbying by business groups and Hispanics makes that politically impossible.
Fair point, and it buggers me how companies get around that. I have to do new hire paperwork for people joining my team - There is a form, the I-9 if that if not completed within 48 hours of the person joining the company - I get fired and so does the new hire
It's not that they "get around" it. They just don't do it! The government does not do random checks of employees or anything. So you hire someone with either fake documents or no documents and you simply don't tell the government. You pay them cash. There is an entire black market of illegal workers out there.
