Well that is kind of the pace of human society. It takes generations to do what could be done more or less overnight. Yep. Social isolation is a detriment as a whole. Actually there are some Gypsies in Yorkshire (outskirts of Bradford), very few though but we just leave them alone. That is good to hear and ultimately it is up to our generation to deal with the problems of the future especially as the stakes are also becoming greater. From a UK perspective I'm a little doubtful as to whether my lot can actually rise to the challenge. You might be one day or maybe even have the ability to influence things. I think it's always important to grasp for change instead of just wishing for it like we do in the UK.
Are they British gypsies settled there since the 16th century when the big wave came to Europe? With time everything wrong now will mend. But then other wrongs will come for that next generation to solve. There is so much to do... real tax policies, healthcare, social services, elimination of economically parasitic institutions and/or useless/ duplicate job/administrative positions that if removed would boost the economy.
This lot seems to look like the more easterly type. Maybe they are actual Roma, It's hard to tell without asking. It seems like most of the Gypsies we have come from Ireland. To be honest I've seldom seen or met Gypsies. Geez you can't win can ya haha. Although hopefully the next big problem will be how we dispose of all the reality TV stars that seem to litter the place like so much stale confetti. Could shoot them towards the sun I guess. Well government can only really work with the input of it's people otherwise they will stay content with the status quo. They will only budge when people get naffed off. It's a not too dissimilar situation here but of of course we have our own flavour of it.
Haha it's funny how I say that I welcome non-Europeans in Romania... since we have no social services (actually we do but they are formal garbage), no state benefits (except for a few nickels), no matter how many come, there isn't much they can put pressure on. With jobs things are different. While Western Europe complains of lack of jobs, here in Romania we have plenty. But of those plentiful jobs, most offer an inhumanly low income. So I was just wondering today... which is better: to have few jobs but well paid or to have plenty for all but poorly paid?
Yeah unfortunately that is kind of our predicament. The welfare/health budget is enormous and it does not help that EU citizens can use those services for free. But even without that we'd still have a problem. That is an interesting question. I suppose you'd have to clarify as to what qualifies as a poorly paid job. I mean is it say 50% of the average cost of living? I'd say that right now it would be better to have jobs that although are of low pay but nonetheless plentiful providing that you can save a little otherwise you're just working to survive. If it was a matter of high paying but few jobs well then that's going to drive up competition to the point where if you don't make the grade then you're out of the game. Ideally it would be better to strike a balance between the two.
Not that low but not much higher either. Minimum national wage is 190. A one room rent even in the suburbs of larger cities can exceed 100. And the prices of many foods are the same as in Germany or Britain. The irony of all is that we have some of the best natural resources in Europe. Just read on the web. A big country, 20 million people, yet we do nothing with them... More discipline needed. That is in fact finally starting to show but drop by drop, agonizingly small drops. Afraid many people here are in that situation. There's lots of those who could only save if they didn't pay the bills or cut 1000 calories from their daily foods. Luckily not me. Totally agree with you. I think this is the awful, gruesome, economically draining legacy of communism and change of social system. In that extreme socialism people got used to be given some job automatically, unconditionally, by the government, in most cases regardless of their level of skill, and now there's this transitional clay of mixed-up values, competence and incompetence meeting in the same boat. People are used, the mentality still is, to have incompetent people put in important positions. Also in general to create a very uncompetitive environment in which there is this tendency to give everyone jobs, thus diminishing the value of everyone's work, income, enthusiasm towards life and as a consequence of the Romanian currency/ national economy. Maybe not.
That what I would say about Russia, but I do know what will happen. Putin will die,a new ball and chain will replace him, and Russia will be hit by a more sever human rights decrease
Per week or month? But in any case at least it's possible to survive with that. The average rent for an flat in the UK is between £100-250 a week and that's if you hunt around. And it's common for rentals to be marginally lower than mortgages. True my ex boss worked in the Oil & Gas business as a rig manager. And Romania has had a quiet but surprising contribution to science; first oil fired power plant. Trust me I did not have to use the net for that one. And I find the same kind of frustration about UK businesses. We do have natural resources but alot of it unused because it would be too expensive. But I think the worst thing is the slip in organisation. For example I used to work at a sawmill (not a great job) and we moved stacks of planks to where it was needed in the yard. I was paired up with this Lithuanian guy who'd been there for five years and did not speak a word of English. Eventually I got really confused by not knowing where to put varied sizes of wood. So I drew a map with annotations for each of the sizes of wood. Bizarre thing was that my partner looked at my map and immediately copied it and I was left thinking "why was this not done beforehand by the company" That is a shame. I've always hated having to work just to survive. I've always been motivated by being able to profit. What can I say, I have £'s in my eyes which btw are being surgically treated. Hopefully this should pass in time. From what I've read there does seem to be some investment by western companies into Romania which might shake the status quo. Well if you do strike a balance then you can say that yes there are jobs that are great although not as well paid as there are in France etc. But at the same time we can still find work for everybody that is not capable of doing the upper echelons of the job market. Thus Romania may not need to extend the welfare system so much as the economy grows and upper earners can still enjoy a pretty decent standard of living within Romania. Well that's the theory anyway.
Well if you Pro-Consul would be make a balance then Pro-Consul may be could understand that he is not an idiot .I mean that Pro-Consul are an idiot because he has lost the sense of reality.
So you decided to pick on my posts rather than everybody else's. This topic has been poorly initiated. This isn't 100% clear and what little is clear does relate to my posts on this topic. Go and bother somebody else.
This topic was started as i want .Go to hell if you disagree .You may to start something like this one internet is a free country
Not quite sure what the purpose of this thread is meant to be, but it seems some are having fun with it. I don't see Western Europe going to hell, but that's IMO.
Yep,absolutely true .I made this topic just for fun ,but with some cruel insertion. If you don't you see that EU going to hell ,then that is only your private problems .
