Israeli awarded Nobel Prize in chemistry !!

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on Wednesday that Israeli scientist Arieh Warshel, together with scientists Martin Karplus and Michael Levitt, have won this year's Nobel Prize in chemistry for laying the foundation for computer models used to understand and predict chemical processes.
The Swedish academy noted that their research in the 1970s has helped scientists develop programs that unveil chemical processes such as the purification of exhaust fumes or the photosynthesis in green leaves.

"The work of Karplus, Levitt and Warshel is ground-breaking in that they managed to make Newton's classical physics work side-by-side with the fundamentally different quantum physics," the academy said. "Previously, chemists had to choose to use either/or."
Warshel is a US and Israeli citizen affiliated with the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Levitt is a British citizen and a professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine who has also held positions at the Weizmann Institute for many years. Karplus, a US and Austrian citizen is affiliated with the University of Strasbourg, France, and Harvard University.
Warshel told a news conference in Stockholm by telephone that he was "extremely happy" to be awakened in the middle of the night in Los Angeles to find out he had won the prize and looks forward to collecting the award in the Swedish capital in December.

Well whaddaya know. Finally someone gets a Nobel Prize for the purpose of which Alfred Nobél intended it for -- some real, hard-core science instead of some pseudo, soft, social-science caca.

For many years the sociology bunch has been handing out Nobel Prizes to everyone except true scientists. Even Obama got one -- a peace prize, I think.

Alfred must roll over in his grave every time some phony lil' nincompoop gets a prize in his prestigious name.

 

This certainly is an attestment to world peace and the kind of knowledge we should ascribe to. If we could hear more of this, and engaging in this kind of behavior the world would be a better place.

More Nobel scientists, less war propaganda and "fear" and "specialness". These scientists should be incredibly proud of their accomplishments.

 

It sure is....and it's done by two US-based scientists with Israeli passports and one American Jew...and it reflects the values of the state of Israel and world Jewry, not just these three individual scientists...and Jewish/Israeli scientists win Nobel prizes every year.......Please remind us how many representatives of Israel's enemy states demonstrate similar attestment to world peace and the betterment of humanity? I guess now that they have these awards, they can go on producing new bio-chem weapons for Israel to hide behind, while pointing a finger at a boy with a stone.

How did they fair with atomic power? That played out well, because of it we had a real holocost in Japan, and we came close to a nuclear war during MAD, and we have all the issues relating to it today. So well done Oppenheimer et all, it must have made him very happy to be the "destroyer".

A new study—which shows that Israelis score below the world average in a MBA standardized test—is the latest evidence to disprove the oft-claimed “Jewish intellectual superiority” used as an excuse for their domination of academic institutions.
The report, as published in the Israel Ynet News service, showed that “Israelis taking the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score lower grades than the global average.

“According to the annual report of the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), an international non-profit organization of business schools, Israeli examinees scored an average grade of 484 points in 2012, while the average grade of all GMAT examinees was 548 points.

“Although the Israelis’ average score is higher than that of candidates from the Middle East – 440 points, American examinees reached a more impressive figure with an average of 530 points.

“Examinees from Australia and the Pacific region top the list with an average of 597 points, followed by examinees from Southeast Asia with 578 points.

“The United States leads in the number of examinees with 144,650 students who took the test, despite an average annual drop of 1.4% in the past five years. An average annual increase of 11.2% was recorded in the overall number of examinees from outside the US, with Israel ranking 12th with 2,385 GMAT examinees.”

GMAT is an admission test for a graduate management program, such as MBA, in the world’s leading universities. It assesses a person’s analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in standard written English. However, there are additional requirements for master’s degree studies, including work experience, credentials, essays and volunteer work.

The claim that Jews are “cleverer” than other people is most often given as the reason why they dominate academic institutions in America in particular—but that has been thoroughly disproved with the release of Ron Un’s paper, “The myth of American meritocracy:

A Bernie Madoff makes us feel bad.
After World War 2 it was expected the Germans demonstrate some "tribal guilt" over the holocaust .
But, Germans do not have that aptitude.

Others may not perceive it the same.

So why do Jewish persons continue to achieve Nobel Prizes disproportionately?
They are not denied land ownership and all the excuses of a hundred years ago.
Criminality is also a different mode. Sure there was Murder, Inc. and Mayer Lansky,
there just seem to be fewer petty violent criminals. Right, Jewish crime is better thought out.

Perhaps you ought to take a moment to consider that all this "tribal" chest-beating translates to the reader as arrogance which, I'm sure you will agree, is not an attractive quality. A little dignity and self-restraint is far less off-putting than bombast and displays of hyperbole.
What the scientists have achieved, as I understand it, is good for science. Science is for everyone, not just Israel.

1. It's silly to take things like number of Nobel Prizes too seriously. Neither you nor I have a Nobel Prize or are likely to ever have. A person's self-worth is ultimately theirs alone. It shouldn't be much affected by any groups to which they belong. Praise or blame assigned to whole categories of people is the game played by bigots.

2. If Arabs hate Jews (you said this), I doubt Nobel Prizes have much to do with it. If your complaint is about Jewish self-esteem, don't Arabs like themselves? They should, but if not, I doubt anything said or done by Jews has much to do with it. Jews, after all, do not depend for their self-esteem on the good opinion of Arabs.

P.S. Several Arabs have won Nobel Prizes. The Peace Prize was won by Anwar Sadat in 1978, Yasser Arafat in 1994, Mohamed El Baradei in 2005, and Tawakel Karman in 2011. Naguib Mahfouz won for Literature in 1988 and Ahmed Zewail for Chemistry in 1999.

Collective praise or blame makes little sense most of the time. When I was a kid, my father loved to boast of Albert Einstein and how smart he was. Yet my father knew no physics, so Einstein's distinction was remote from him, or so it seemed to me. We all stand or fall alone in the end.

Collective judgments do acquire some sense when we see certain behavior persisting in one group at far above the normal rate. If these results reach statistical significance and have lasted as long as records have been kept, then we may say that the group is different. That leaves the question of why they're different unanswered. Is it some combination of environmental or cultural factors? Is it genetic? Some interaction of circumstances and genes? If the difference is important it might become a question for research.

We can't help but notice people in the news, including their race, ethnicity, gender, etc. It's easy to be swept away by emotion about such things. But we're better off resisting the temptation.

It has just been announced that the peace prize went to the OPCW. During the speech it was mentioned that the two countries involved in the removal of chemical weapons from Syria have the largest stockpile of chemical weapons with no intention of removing them.........

I was hoping that the Afghan girl would get it as I believe that would have made more of a statement than giving it to a political entity.....
