And when the beloved GOP had 6 yrs to make changes, what did they do? They increased the size of gov't. Oh well, blinders are on all partisans.
People say they are very dissastisfied with the Democrats and the Republicans, but they don't want to "waste their vote". It won't be until both parties are utterly discredited AND enough people are in an incredibly dire situation AND a believable third party alternative springs up that is attractive enough to all those theoretical very desperate American voters that a true challenge to the Two-Party system will be mounted. The sad thing is that the Democrats and Republicans would probably close ranks against such a third party, regardless of what was good for the nation.
They'll start relating again as 2016 draws closer. There will never be a 3rd party that doesn't represent special interests. Just look at the Tea Party attempt. They started out as an anti-Washington movement but, before they knew it, they were owned lock, stock, barrel by Roger Ailes and K Street. The special interests spend a few bucks and then just glom on.
IMO, a third party simply cannot win the Presidency as things stand with the Electoral College. They can win governorships and Congressional offices but only candidates from one of the two major parties in existence at the time have ever taken the Presidency. In 1912 Taft got 88 electoral votes from 3 million votes, In 1992 Ross Perot got 18.9% of the Popular vote and NO electoral votes. Parties can change, of course, but a third party cannot take the Presidency..
Why not vote for the party that is willing to end the drug war and simple poverty, and get us into fusion power in two terms.
The only party that can do that is the GOP. The democrats won't do it and the socialist are incapable of even maintaining the status quo. But who wants the GOP?
Why do you believe the GOP can do it? Even a cleric on the right was unwilling to run on a simple platform of merely bearing true witness to our own social contract.
If you have a framework of libertarian delegates and governors and senate seats... by the time my daughter is 18 there could be. Assuming the economy has not imploded yet. When that happens... all bets are off.
Yes, that might work in 18 years, but most likely Libertarians will be Republicans long before that. Just about every third party that we've had has been subsumed by one or the other of the two major parties. That's why the things you think are good will be done, but eventually. OTOH, given the pigheaded ideological purity the present Republicans are demanding the Democrats might just be willing to sweep them up. One of the Dems major strengths is that there has never been a real "big tent" vs "little tent" debate with them. They welcome anybody who will give them a vote.
I am calling it in 10... outside of economic implosion... which could bring it quickly. In Virginia's long history there have only been 4 third party candidates. None broke 3%. A shift is coming. A groundswell.
The Libertarian Party has been around since the early 70s. Why do you think they are going to decide to become Republican in the next 18 years, if they haven't already done so?
I think the Reform Party is still around too, but most of them vote for either Republicans or Democrats nowadays. Party means little once you are in the booth and, really, should mean even less all the time. People generally vote for whoever they think will do what they want done, then neither Party does it. One of the very few things George Washington actually maintained a stated opinion on were Parties. He warned against them
The only thing out there with an name recognition is Libertarian and if they run a candidate on a third party ticket, that assures a democrat win. Thats why rand paul and daddy ran as GOP only not libertarian. Were not even close to having a third party run .
Obama will delay individual mandate until after midterms to protect Dems http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-bl...ay-individual-mandate-until-after-midterms-to Uniformed, ignorant, lied-to voters who have no idea what Obama has done to them are what the Democrats need in abundance in the 2014 midterms.
All you have to do is vote your conscience. Most people are libertarians... they just don't know it. Every one of th founding fathers would be libertarians... (*)(*)(*)(*) they would be shooting by now. The only question is how many cycles will it take... and how terribly broken must the US be before everyone jumps ship. I recommend you get ahead of the curve.
When did I say that the GOP has ever tried to reform the system? Because they haven't. That's not the point.
Sorry, misread your post. Both parties love the current system and neither have any incentive to change it.
If Obama delays the mandate a year like the Tea Party asked.... That would mean Obama shut down the government for no reason...
Agreed. I was just addressing the fellow that believes one party somehow created corruption and cronyism.
Your post reflects what Ive run across more often than not, libertarians think theres alot more of them than there really are.
Why couldn't a third party simply run on a platform of ending our drug war, solving simple poverty, and get us into fusion power within two terms.
