Indeed I've failed completely to elicit a response containing any substance of any kind.

    Well, except for post #10.

If you can't grasp the things I say, trolling me won't help you get it any sooner.

I can sense that you WANT to from my wisdom, yet for some reason you can't help but lash out in anger, a misdirected anger, possibly deriving from your obvious intellectual inadequacy.

Honor? Honor is what the individual decides that his or her life is worth under various circumstances, because to live by honor is to voluntarily sacrifice for some sort of cause. But -- and here's the interesting part -- one person's honor is not necessarily the same as another person's honor.

I don't see much self sacrifice going on in westernized civilization.

I'm so gonna loose sleep because some creepy guy on the internet claims I have no honor in how I've lived or how I will die.

There is honor in what we do in life, regardless of the surrounding implications one might attach to it. You call them corporate wars, which could be true, yet the soldier isn't thinking that he is going to die for corporations. He is being told he is dying so terrorists won't be in America, or to stop the spread of communism. Corporate doesn't come to mind when he is pitted against another warrior on a battle field, or when he saves his brothers. He is doing what his country has asked of him to do, and that is honorable to me. I would hate to think my brothers died for a corporation.

Every military volunteer is prepared to self-sacrifice. He or she doesn't want to do it, but is prepared to do so if necessary. There are non-profit charities out the whazoo in Western nations, and what is that but a personal sacrifice of time, money, effort, and once in a very great while perhaps a life? So you need to deliver up some solid definitions for such a subject. If everyone isn't on the same general page then the discussion simply goes all over the place.

I generally find those that complain the loudest about these issues often lack any real understanding of what it is like to live in places where robust democratic concepts have not taken root. Just the concept of freedom. An American has a different perception of freedom to an Australian, Canadian, or Frenchmen. The important thing is each society has the ability to define freedom as best suits them. That is the real value of failed (sic) democratic processes.

Well, I for one am glad there isn't an honorable death. For goodness sake, I've never liked the idea of a lot of honor just for its own sake.

That's why I hate ancient feudal, warrior-code societies in the history books, past fiction, and even sci-fi fiction and this is why I couldn't really enjoy the Klingons on Star Trek. This honorable death stuff is all so depressing and pointless.

It might have been interesting if the OP had actually addressed that idea.....but it didn't.

Well, in that case, I don't know what the point of OP is about, but maybe I should refer Validation Boy to his local suicide call-line for all I know. The usual alternative to death is life.

Do you think suicide in protest of how honor has been lost is an honorable death?

I am always amazed at how tenaciously many cynics cling to a life they despise. (apologies to Antisthenes).

    So uninteresting...

That you have about 10 posts in my thread?

    Interesting.

    Suicide brings no honor.

And I don't despise my life. Just pointing out the lack of honor in western societies.
