From the article: Well that's a pretty clear fear to me. I would not want to have to prepare to raise up my emotional defenses every time I walked into a business in case the very nice owners politely pointed out they would not serve me because they judge my life to be a morally bad thing to a deity who I may well have been brought up believing in and continue to believe in. Once in a lifetime....meh...get over it. Once a month...that does not seem like a reasonable price to pay for someone else's exercise of freedom in a public field.
It seems to me that this has been blown way out of proportion. Why don't these people just take their business elsewhere, maybe organize a boycott if it's really such an inconvinence? That's the beauty of the free market. If you have the government forcing these bakers to serve them, the only people who win are the lawyers who get rich and the politicians who get more power.
Of course- that is what Conservatives are trying to explain to us. As long as there is another business who are willing to serve African Americans or Jews or Gays, then business's should be allowed to discriminate for any reason they want to.
If this was a story about a gay bakery denying Christians a wedding cake the Conservatives here would be singing a completely different tune...
Most college sports like basketball and football are dominated by black athletics. By not allowing more white players, aren't these schools after all, discriminating against whites? Shouldn't the courts tell these schools to recruit more white players???? Not to mention more Asian players? - - - Updated - - - Christians are use to getting prosecuted. They wouldn't make the courts force the gays...
Too bad none of the homophobes have ANY evidence that this is "coming down the road". NO ONE is asking churches to perform gay marriages, except in some churches where their OWN MEMBERS want the church to perform gay marriages.
Christians. Prosecuted? I think you mean persecuted, but aside from that I think you and I live in two completely different countries if you honestly believe Christianity of all religions is being "prosecuted."
I wouldn't put anything harmful in their cake but it would look and taste like (*)(*)(*)(*). I'd hire my 8 year olr daughter to bake and decorate it. Sorry was busy had to hire edtra help.
These businesses simply want their wet dream to be able to humiliate and abuse those members of the public they are bigoted against who might come in their door looking for a wedding cake or flowers or a place to spend the night. People who operate businesses like that have NO "right" to use our public square for their sick perversions. They need to move to Iran where such behavior is part of the law.
No evidence..... until it happens.... It just takes one unscrupulous gay person to try to force a church to do it... ......then it's party time!!!!
I don't even give a (*)(*)(*)(*) if there's another business to serve. Only an idiot doesn't understand the concept of private property. I own my business. I know this bc I pay the personal property tax on it every year. (*)(*)(*)(*) your whiny discrimination claims. Oh and by the way I personally would never turn down money based on race gender or sexual preference but I want my my property rights protected at all costs.
Some people just want to practice their religion in a peaceful manner. If they don't want to serve gay people, I think we should not force them. It's like forcing vegetarians to eat meat. Or forcing Indians to kill cows... If gay people want to practice secularism, I have no issues with that.. but don't force their values on others. It's unfair...
Thata the entire (*)(*)(*)(*)ing point. Force others to accept and take part in your beliefs. Look at the (*)(*)(*)(*)ing morons who are screaming that those who won't should get out pf the country. t
Christians want to discriminate in a peaceful manner? Its logic like this that make right-wingers the joke that keeps on giving.
It's not only Christians... Some peaceful Muslims don't want to serve gays either.. The right to practice your religion peacefully...
This isn't something that is widespread. Most businesses don't care if someone is gay or not as long as they can pay the bill. This is just another example of the media taking a rare case and making a big deal out of it.
This judgement is pretty stupid. Forcing a company to do something it is against? I wonder what kind of service the people will get if a company is forced to serve them? That would be like insulting the wait staff in a restaurant before you eat...not smart....I can see some gay wedding cakes with bible verses accidentally written on them.
I totally agree with the judge. This is about intolerance. As a democratic nation, we must honor others lifestyles whether we agree or not. I imagine they will not use the cake and the suit was more symbolic. They more than likely have already had their ceremony and eaten a cake worthy of their affirmations. However, the bakery should bake and deliver a beautiful cake pee and all. I agree that the bakery should not allow bare feet or no shirt because those are safety issues. A human's lifestyle does not in any way impede the bakery unless of course they are fingering one another in public. Again, bad manners and a safety issue.
Today they are forced to serve gay weddings, tomorrow they will be forced to cater donkey shows......it never ends.
There are many ways to not serve any wedding without prejudice! Do you understand that? People when hiring for jobs decide in the first 2 to 3 minutes if they like you. Bakery can do the same. I am booked that day! I am sorry, I am booked on that day as well, however, I can give the name of a baker that may have those dates available. See how easy. Nobody gets hurt, maybe disappointed but not hurt by intolerant azzholes. Done, end of story.
