If it turns out the Saudis are involved, we need to do a few things.

If GWB knew, they were the helping, and blocked us from knowing the truth, sent our boys to afaganistan, when the real enemy were the Saudis, try him for treason, war crimes, something. He must be held accountable.

Then take the Saudi's to task, not some nice war like weve been doing, im talking carpet bombing, so these other nations know we are not playing around any more.

what was the gain for the saudi's to do this? and they knew the risk of us finding out eventually, so this makes little sense..

I have always had the thought there was a third party involved in much of the conflict we see in the Middle East- things like this only re-enforce that feeling

Iran or Iraq are much more likely candidates.

I believe the 9/11 conspirators were all Saudis, as was Bin Laden. Of course that doesn't automatically implicate the Saudi regime. But the Saud royal family has always tried to straddle political fences. They know how unusual their form of government is, and how vulnerable they are to military force. The wave of democratic political reform sweeping the Middle East is a direct threat to them. The Saudis have always sought to buy peace for themselves. They give money to political forces of all sorts, including Islamist terrorists. Their aim is to make it impractical to overthrow them. The US has been among their beneficiaries, in the form of controlled escalation of OPEC oil prices. We too can be bought. Oil man Bush is well aware. US energy independence is the only way to remove the Saudi grip. So did the Saudi regime support the 9/11 plot? Probably, since they support any extreme movement which might otherwise threaten them. Our response should be to develop our own oil and gas resources, which actually exceed those of the Saudis, and then stop buying from them. The less necessary they are, and the poorer, the more vulnerable will they become. Let someone else kill them.

To me, this is the typical behavior of the US policies against the rest of nations. Notice that every foreign "buddy" of the USA has been killed or sent to prison when his help or coalition was not needed anymore.

Of course it was obvious that Saudi Arabia government was involved somehow with terrorist attacks, but the moment to "expose" such information wasn't arrived yet. First, Saudi Arabia was useful to destroy Iraq, and Iran as well, but attacking Iran should compromise the entire oil operation in the gulf and many countries should be affected for years if Iran decided to destroy every ship traveling through the gulf. The best solution was to make "peace" with Iran until another solution for the oil delivery is reached.
Now, when Saudi Arabia is not needed anymore, is when the US will find the way to declare it an "enemy", and Saudi Arabia must comply with what thew West imposes about their oil or an imminent attack will be scheduled.

Now, I don't have access to the full report, but based on all the information I have available to me, so far, from the article, President Bush was correct in his decision to censor out the report.

You have to understand: the report doesn't point to Saudi Arabia sending the terrorists to blow up the World Trade Center and Pentagon. It seems to suggest that Saudi Arabia has a buddy club that helps people out, both financially and in making social connections among the community... Some of the people who they helped out just happened to be the terrorists. And, that could be mistaken for state funded terrorism by the emotionally distresses American public, looking for someone to take revenge on, in the post-9/11 hysteria.

If you don't understand why this censoring was done, and was the right choice, than you are adding more weight to the idea that this was the right decision to hide this information from the public.

What would the US do to a group of Americans who had a buddy club that helped people out both financially and in making social connections among the community, and some of the people they helped out happened to be terrorists?

Oh these bastards are good. Anything the Saudis did they did with the full knowledge and permission of the united States. But now we need a scape goat and the Saudis are going to be the fall guys...

Right here is all you need to know.

    - - - Updated - - -

Because the Saudis did this at our request. We would come in an d clean up the middle east and the Saudis would be the benefactors of such a rearrangement.

Well the good news we will save energy around gas stations by not having to light them at night. Should be enough radioactive glow from the fuel :)

The US would do absolutely nothing. There are charities who would find themselves in this group if you rounded up everyone who helped their neighbor, and, short of sending money overseas to terrorist training camps, no one will be charged for the criminal actions of the people they aid who later go on to become terrorists.

In the pre-9/11 world such a connection, between aid group and there being criminals among the aided, would be unthinkable. Today, now that funding terrorist organizations is against the law, it's still unthinkable. The only difference now is that US intelligence might know who is part of a terror cell and may stop them before they strike.... sometimes....

The 9/11 hijackers obviously had a lot of help once they made it into the U.S., which even today appears to be no big deal (Southern border). By help, that would consist of financial assistance and an intelligence effort to help them blend in better and avoid detection the way the Russians have done it in the U.S. for a hundred years.

As to the censorship of these likely facts, there would be a real modern crusade if the U.S. were to start dropping bombs and/or invade Saudi Arabia.
