    1. If you are a daughter and you happen to be sold into slavery, the Exodus 21:7 says you cannot be set free.
    2. If you work on Sunday, you are to be put to death according to Exodus 35:2. Does that make working on Sunday a sin? Or does that make it a sin to not put someone to death for working on Sunday. Next time you go to McDonald's on a Sunday, better make sure to murder everyone working there. Your eternal soul hangs in the balance.

    3. Leviticus 11:7 says that touching the carcass of a pig makes you unclean. Guess we better cancel football. Oh wait. That would be inconvenient for all of the mouthbreathers.

How can Christians continue their crusade against gays while ignoring the blatant SINNING by American football teams?

You have a gross misunderstanding of the Bible. You have no evidence that homosexual sin is any more or less important to Christians that any other sexual sin. With very little effort you can find videos on the Internet of sermons of the most prominent ministers in America preaching against all other forms of sexual sin and immorality. While you're searching, you may as well find information related to the differences between ceremonial ancient Jewish law and eternal moral principles.

Where did I say that Christians had focused too much on homosexuality at the expense of exclusively sexual sins? My point is that Christians ignore sins that would be inconvenient for the things that they like and focus very intently on sins committed by the kind of people they are uncomfortable with (teh gayz).

Where in the bible does it make a distinction between "ceremonial ancient Jewish Law" and "external moral principles"? Can you quote me that verse? If not, it sounds more like Christians are cherry-picking sins.

I have yet to see any Christian ministers or laymen here start threads condemning remarriage after divorce- EVEN THOUGH- this is far more common than homosexuality in America and even though Jesus himself said that this was the same as adultery.

I am sure I could find Catholics who have condemned it, but the point of the thread is that what we hear from vocal Christians is condemnation of homosexuality but little to no condemnation of anything else from the New Testament.

I agree people pick and choose the sins they want to remain in their lives.

Here's what I want to know from you or whoever may answer. Why do Christians want homosexual acts to be sin? Most American Christians don't want the love of money to be sin either, but that doesn't change Scripture. Why wouldn't we bend the rules, so to speak, for homosexuals like we do for the rich?

Because men find homosexuality between men icky, but they want to be rich.

I shouldn't have to state the obvious, but…

Divorce isn't at the forefront of political discourse today. How do you know what goes on in the sanctuaries of our churches?

I can only speculate, but I think they want homosexuality to remain a sin for 1 of 2 reasons.
    1. The more moderates think it should be a sin because it always has been.
    2. The crazies think it should be a sin because they just happen to dislike gays and they find it very convenient that the bible happens to have verses condemning homosexuality.

So the real reason it's opposed isn't because it's sin, but because some men find it "icky?"

The Bible is very clear however that adultery and divorce are sins. So where are the Christian calls for the government to make constitutional amendments banning people from committing adultery or getting divorces? Where are the constitutional amendments banning divorcees or adulterers from getting married?

It's a sin because it's icky. The same reason football isn't a sin because it isn't icky. It's actually a lot of fun.

It always has been? I guess you're not in the misguided crowd that believes some Christians just made up this business of homosexual sin with no basis in Scripture.

Again, they "happen to dislike gays" is the cause for their contempt, sin notwithstanding. That's interesting.

    Gays have always been marginalized.

And yes. I would argue that most people hate gays because they think it is gross. They just rely on the fact that it's a sin because it is convenient to do so. As evidence, look at how they treat football. It would be inconvenient if football were regarded as a sin. It's not so inconvenient if people who happen to dislike engage in conduct that the bible happens to regard as a sin. And it's very convenient how this sinful conduct is not simply one of those ancient Jewish traditions that nobody pays attention to.

Those battles have already been fought and lost, mostly before the religious right became a force in politics, circa late 1970's, early1980's. I believe Reagan signed no contest divorce law as governor of California, for example. Adultery laws are as antiquated as sodomy laws.

Personally, I don't believe in ecclesiastical rule. I believe the survival of our form of self-governance is dependent on the morality of our people. But I don't believe in laws against adultery, divorce, sodomy, nor gay marriage. These are all failures of the church, not the church's involvement in government.

That alone exposes the defect of your reasoning. Premises based upon such bizarre extrapolations are not premises at all, just figments of your imagination.

Regarding your actual question of why do Christians dwell on sexual moralities above others; they don't. Instead, it is the liberal left that dwells upon homosexuality to the point of perverse obsession. So there's simply an increased need for Christians to point out to them the folly of their ways, and to defend against such a logically flawed and destructive agenda.

Please explain how that is bizarre.
Just so I understand your logic, The Christians only dwell on homosexuality as a sin in reaction to RADICAL LEFTISTS, who bring it up out of nowhere and are not reacting to anything or any laws that might restrict the rights of gays. In other words, the leftists are not actually reacting to any behavior by Christians that they perceive to marginalize gays. There really is nothing that prompts the left to defend gays. They just do it out of the kindness of their bleeding liberal hearts.

Which is the point of this thread.

That is the fairly obvious conclusion.

That also explains why most of the staunch 'Christian' men who post here against homosexuality focus on Gay men (and obsess about anal sex), and rarely mention lesbians.

If you have an alternate explanation of why there are thread after thread by self proclaimed Christians condemning 'gay marriage' and no threads condemning remarriage, I would like to see it.

If 'good Christians' were telling Americans that they couldn't get married again after they got divorced- as Jesus tells you to- in the same way that they have said that Americans of the same gender can't get married, well I would be defending the rights of Americans to be married a second time too.

But "good Christians' like Newt Gingrich ignore Jesus's teachings and conservative Christians don't condemn his actions as immoral.

    But they do homosexual activity.

Some people are actually repulsed by football because it's violent. Admittedly, I'm not one of them. I'm honest enough to say that I do have to reconcile my affection for the game with my faith. I don't like boxing or MMA at all, because it is pure violence as opposed to violence being a consequence of football contact. I like that the NFL is trying to make it less violent, although it's a steep hill to climb for an organization that has made billions propping it up as violence. ANyway, I digress.

I think we mostly agree. Some people are simply grossed out by homosexuality. And that's enough reason for them, hypocrites in their own right, to condemn homosexuals. Then we must conclude there are non-religious people who are also grossed out. What about them?

    Gender:
    Male

    Leviticus 18:22
"Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin." (NLT)

abuse them and do whatever you like. But don't do such a shameful thing to this man." (NLT)

    1 Kings 14:24
And there were also male cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations that the LORD drove out before the people of Israel. (ESV)

    1 Kings 15:12
He put away the male cult prostitutes out of the land and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. (ESV)

    2 Kings 23:7
He also tore down the living quarters of the male and female shrine prostitutes that were inside the Temple of the LORD, where the women wove coverings for the Asherah pole. (NLT)

    Romans 1:18-32
But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.... Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.

So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. They know God's justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too. (NLT)

    1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people-none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (NLT)

    1 Timothy 1:8-10
Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine ... (ESV)

    Jude 7
And don't forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God's judgment. (NIV)

Equating the carcass of a decaying swine to an American football is probably what leads you to equating sodomy to the natural union between a man and woman.

There are no laws restricting homosexuals from engaging in homosexuality. But there is a leftist obsession in creating laws out of nowhere that give them unqualified privileges. So if there is anyone marginalizing gays, it is the gays themselves and their liberal advocates; marginalizing themselves into some sort of a privileged class that the whole world needs to cater to.

And regarding the kindness of the bleeding liberal heart, it has always been limited to the extent of their liberal agenda.

The Bible condemns adultery and divorce far more often and vehemently than it does homosexuality. Where are the calls by Christians in America to instate constitutional amendments banning adulterers or divorcees from marrying?

There are some Christians who condemn divorce and think that it's a sin. A couple of quick examples:

    Divorce is a Sin!

No-Fault Divorce is an Institutionalized Evil

Of course not all Christians feel that way by a long shot, but many Christians support gay marriage, too - as some atheists do not.

Do you know how many from the christian right I know who hunt pigs, gut and clean pigs with their bare hands and prepare them for cooking? More than I care to count. It's all in how you decide to conveniently interpret things. That's the way it always has been. I think the phrase for that goes something like this; they are all "full of ....."
