Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Thursday denounced conservative musician Ted Nugent for calling President Obama a "subhuman mongrel."

Paul said in a tweet that Nugent's rhetoric is out of bounds.

Ted Nugent's derogatory description of President Obama is offensive and has no place in politics. He should apologize.8:19 PM - 20 Feb 2014

First, good for Rand Paul. But politically interesting, since his fellow 2016 Presiential rival Rick Perry first denounced Nugent....then backpedalled from it a bit....then issued a second weak denouncement.

Apparently, Rand sees a way to risk little (Texas will still go to him if he is the GOP Nominee in 2016...no matter what, as will all the Nugent fans).....and a way to point out how wishy-washy Rick Perry is.

Second, no doubt there will be those who see "nothing wrong" in what Nugent said....but again, won't actively attack Rand for denouncing Nugent nor "hold it against him" in the 2016 Election.

    A win-win for Rand.

I used to call him The Idiot Son, but must admit that he's developing into a decent politician.

That said, he'll never sit at the Resolute Desk.. a good thing for our country. ;-)

    Well, let's not go overboard.

It could simply be a political move by Rand to paint a potential rival..."Oops" Perry...as wishy-washy.

Rand knows that IF he gets the GOP Nomination.....Texas will go to him, and all the Ted Nugent fans will still vote for him in the General Election, even if he calls The Nuge a racist nutjob to his face. He won't "lose" anything.

I am glad he denounced it. Wish more GOPers would.

Yep, decent politicians often make savvy political moves. Btw, Wendy kinda blew an opportunity -- From Wonkette :D

Sadly, the Wendy Davis camp failed to capitalize on The Nuge by issuing a really really boring statement:

“Greg Abbott’s embrace of Ted Nugent is an insult to every Texan — every man, woman, husband, and father. If this is Greg Abbott’s idea of values, it’s repulsive,” Davis said in a statement.

SNOOZE! Come on, Wendy, What Would Ann Richards Do? Probably say something like “Ted Nugent? I guess we can forget about the racist cretin vote,” except it would be like 50x more witty and awesome. Like we said, we do not know much about Texas politics, but we doubt that these kinds of semi-outraged yet strangely sanitized and bloodless statements really resonate with people.

True, let's encourage good behavior from Republicans no matter their motivation.

BTW, what? No Nugent fans showing up to defend the Motor City Madman?!?!? :)

There is a difference between Republicans and Tea Partiers. Although they may not be direct members, guys like Nugent and the far right birthers who call Obama names like Kenyan, Marxist, Socialist, Muslim are all in the Tea Party as far as I'm concerned.

I've never seen any sense of decency in the modern Tea Party. They are dinosaurs afraid of change. Rand Paul is NOT a Tea Partier - he is close, but not there. Nugent has gone off the rails.

What exactly is the point of this thread? We already know that conservatives, republicans, etc hold each other accountable. Now, if you would have found a quote, somewhere throughout history, ,of a liberal condemning another liberal, then that would be front page news. Good luck though

I'm sure the Nuge has fans all over Republicanville. Yep, he surely kicked America's ass that day. He must've heard that the NVA had opposable thumbs and would shoot back at a fella.

Keep that handy the next time you see some Nuge fan talk about what a "patriot" he is.

Atleast Rush Limbaugh with his "Can't go to 'Nam...I got a butt boil" excuse wasn't as goofy as Ted.

Ted took meth and (*)(*)(*)(*) himself for a week straight to get out of the draft in 77 and is a convicted poacher. If anyone is the subhuman mongrel its him.

Ted's an attention whore. This is nothing more than him getting his face in the news again by throwing out something that's guaranteed to get people talking about him again. It's dumbassery at it's worst.

As far as the comments about anyone using those terms being in the TP, that's just plain wrong. Yes, you'll find some twits who think that way who are TP members, but most (99%+) don't. Most of the folks who think that way aren't welcome in most TP groups because they know that they make them look bad. Now you'll find sites where people post pics of TP rallies where people are holding signs like what you're describing, but they are in the VAST minority.

Rand Paul is well-known for his political grandstanding, evidenced by his current lawsuit against Obama.

When he condemns Ted Nugent for his derogatory comments of Obama, I'd like to think that he means it as a decent and honest man, but I'm not convinced.
