In a system where laws have to be voted by the masses, John Adams coined the words : tyranny of majority. But in fact in a population asked to vote, we take the opinion among those expressing something, the majority says nothing (silent majority), and among those saying something only the difference makes the balance, this can be very few. So that in fact the democracy is governed by a minority ?
democracy is bad individual rights and property good why work hard to build yourself a house when the gang can vote it thiers anytime?
i mean at a country level. Of course at a smaller scale you can always have a group against you but they dont forcedly vote they maybe just follow a leader.
Democracy is worth dying for, because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man. Ronald Reagan Democracy shows not only its power in reforming governments, but in regenerating a race of men and this is the greatest blessing of free governments. Andrew Jackson
our right for freedom end where the other's begin. Now in a communist system there is no individual property, so does it mean that everyone can use your home ?
united states is a republic not an empire democracy is evil imagine two wolf and 1 lamb voting whats for dinner individual rights and property are paramount, have those and keep gov spending low and regulation low and you have ideal system problem is incentive is for poltiician to raise spending, give to his friends, and retire claiming its the other guys fautl debt and high prices and fed which is so evil just gaspingly evil, I mean imagine giving a teen an unlimited creditcard and when she runs up 1 million on ti she sasy oh if I get another I wont be broke
Quoting dead men does not help your argument much. Democracy is rule of the majority. The majority decides to send you to a concentration camp, is that alright if it is democratically passed? Have you not seen the videos of the people signing petitions to ban the 1st Amendment? To round up gun owners and put them in concentration camps? Why are Reagan and Jackson speaking of democracy, when they did not even preside of a democratic government?
You would have to ask them, but I suspect it is because they disagree with you regarding the essential form of the government of the United States.
We are a constitutional democratic republic. And we have been an empire at stages in our history. No more inherently evil than a republic is evil. Republic: a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch. Democracy: a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives reference- Oxford English Dictionary.
You want police to protect your property, but who do you want to put in charge of the police if not the people?
Here is more on Reagan speaking of Democracy “Democracy is not a fragile flower,” Reagan said. “Still it needs cultivating. If the rest of this century is to witness the gradual growth of freedom and democratic ideals, we must take actions to assist the campaign for democracy.” America’s 40th president went on to say this: While we must be cautious about forcing the pace of change, we must not hesitate to declare our ultimate objectives and to take concrete actions to move toward them. We must be staunch in our conviction that freedom is not the sole prerogative of a lucky few, but the inalienable and universal right of all human beings. So states the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which, among other things, guarantees free elections. The objective I propose is quite simple to state: to foster the infrastructure of democracy, the system of a free press, unions, political parties, universities, which allows a people to choose their own way to develop their own culture, to reconcile their own differences through peaceful means. This is not cultural imperialism, it is providing the means for genuine self-determination and protection for diversity. Democracy already flourishes in countries with very different cultures and historical experiences. It would be cultural condescension, or worse, to say that any people prefer dictatorship to democracy. From the OED democracy Syllabification: de·moc·ra·cy Pronunciation: /diˈmäkrəsē / 1a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives: The United States has always been a Republic- we are also a representative democracy. The United States is the world's oldest surviving federation. Its government relies on representative democracy through a congressional system under a set of powers specified by its Constitution. However, it is "not a simple representative democracy, but a constitutional republic in which majority rule is tempered by minority rights protected by law." http://www.cfrw.org/index.cfm/your_government.htm
