A Russian warship in Cuba? We have not seen that for 20 years or since the collapse of the USSR.

What is a Russian warship doing in Havana harbor?

The answer is simple: Putin, and much of the world, see the US in decline. They see President Obama as weak.

We hear that Russia is going a lot farther, as reported in Fausta's Bog:

"Russia is planning to expand its permanent military presence outside its borders by placing military bases in a number of foreign countries, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday.

Shoigu said the list includes Vietnam, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, the Seychelles, Singapore and several other countries.

“The talks are under way, and we are close to signing the relevant documents,” Shoigu told reporters in Moscow."

As any young recruit will tell you, there is very little military value to a Russian base in Cuba, Venezuela or Nicaragua. They are not a military threat to the US. We could take out those bases quickly in any war.

The real value is psychological, or further indication that Russia is challenging The Monroe Doctrine and getting away with it.

The "yes we can screamers" will go out of their way to tell us that the US has no right to keep Russia from opening bases wherever they choose to do so.

The rest of us, as well as much of the world, will see it as US weakness or another indication that President Obama has abdicated as my good friend Barry Casselman wrote yesterday:

Like a shark sensing blood in the water, Putin is making his move in our hemisphere, while China makes their moves in the Pacific. Obama and his previous and present appointees heading the State Dept., have shown the same incompetence as their "dear leader'. Pass that "Reset Button".

One warship? Just one? Heck we have a whole carrier battle group in Japan. I am not worried about a pleasure cruise to Cuba by Putin. He wants to go back to ten 1960s, more power to him. The rest of the world has better things to concern themselves with.

Nope. There's no significance of Russian warship sailing to Cuba for the first time in 20 years. Go back to sleep; all is well in Obamaland.

Putin looks at Obama and laughs. At least with Bush, he had Putin's respect.

Putin deserves no respect, so who cares? And you seriously think Russia would attack the US? Wow- you guys are truly goofy.

Russia is pretty much as powerful as we are now and their leader is more powerful than ours.

I know that Conservatives want to believe that Russia is as powerful as the United States, and I understand that they admire a despot like Putin, but that doesn't make it true.

Putin does look good on horseback though.

Hillary Clinton was an enormous failure as Secretary of State... and now the Progressives want to make her President? Makes sense!

Maybe not right now but then again Obama is downsizing the military to pre WWII levels, so who knows.

A country that uses conscripts.... can't afford to fly aircraft and is selling hardware to China. Yeah they aren't so strong.

Oh boy...sometimes I wonder why I even come to this site. Stuff like this would be funny if it weren't so sad.

As we post Russian troops have been said to invade the Ukraine. They've taken over two airports and the naval port in Sevastopol in the Crimea. For all Obama's bluster Putin has again called his bluff.

I heard it was a russian tuna trawler disguised as a spy ship to get the Americans edgy.
