Let's all agree on that. We'll wipe Anglo culture because we invaded Aboriginal land and made them feel inferior. 😢

What a stupid, ignorant thing to say. Our honours system has nothing whatsoever to do with stone age aboriginal culture. For a start there can be no aboriginal honour for someone who has done an outstanding service for the whole country. There was/is no aboriginal nation, they were composed of around 600 different tribes which spoke different languages and were mostly antagontistic toward one another. For an honour for outstanding service to a local community which of the 600 languages are you going to take a word from? Will you then offend the other 599 tribes? And why should we ask permission? do the aboriginals ask permission to use our language?

That sounds almost like Abos don't belong to your Australia?

The conservatives calling Tim Wilson's idea stupid and ignorant, LOL!

The British honours system and other European Honours are just a modern adaption of medieval European traditions.

The UK has as bloody a civil history as anywhere, don't kid yourself. British Isles also used to have plenty of different languages, still has about half a dozen native languages. So what?

Form a committee of Aboriginal language experts to come up with a few appropriate words.

If it were my choice I'd just get rid of honours altogether.

That's true about the UK. But it's our culture too. And I want to keep it.
Why hand cultural leadership to 2% of the population? You want to get rid of our honours system; that's fine. We've already voted on it.

You're delusional if you think this would "hand cultural leadership to 2% of the population".

I really don't care very much about honours at all, I was simply sharing Tim Wilson's idea from Q and A.

In what way do you imagine that you "voted on it"? Not even cabinet "voted" on this.

Anyway, like I said, this "issue" is of very little interest to me, so I'll leave it there.

Actually I know what is better, Start Australia’s OWN Honors system that is NOT diluted by agenda driven populist beliefs to hold those who contribute throughout their lives for the betterment of Australia. If Australia wants to be a leader then lead by creating its own systems and not simply following the rest of the world. Without of such a system to take the place, I think the entire debate of if it is appropriate or not, is simply ignorant.

What original honours system would you like to recommend?

In modern times TA reintroduction of Knighthoods and Dames is quite and simple embarrassing, but shows where he stands, value wise as well as intellectually.....

A system that recognizes the respondent with the highest honor of Australia for life time of achievement and work for the betterment of Australia not only nationally but globally. Something that dies with the recipient and is not diluted with frivolous awards on yearly basis. That is to say it is only awarded when a recipient who qualifies appears and NOT simply on a yearly basis to make numbers up...

That person gets fame and across the board recognition. The award would certainly be less frivolous and therefore more valued. But I'm afraid it wouldn't work.
I believe corruption would have it's way with the award going to the highest donor.
If you allocate awards for top achievers and then allocate the top award to the head of the country, the GG, then you can have a form of control of over these top achievers. That is it will keep the bastards on side. It's a system that's tried and tested for millenia and it works.

Sounds pretty ridiculous to me, but up to the Australians to judge that. It's their country.
