Here is an idea that came to me this morning.

Perhaps we could give foreign individuals and foreign businesses immigrant visa points for purchasing our exports. An individual who held a certain number of visa points could automatically obtain a permanent resident visa in the United States if the person wished. These visa points could be bought and sold, so people who wanted to emigrate to America could purchase points from businesses and individuals who didn't want to use them.

Usually, I try to craft ideas which wouldn't violate the trade treaties. This idea would, but we have a right to do that under the Charter of the United Nations. "Article 103::: In the event of a conflict between the obligations of the members of the United Nations under the present Charter and any other international obligations to which they are subject, their obligations under the present Charter shall prevail."

Now the trade treaties will shatter the American economy if they are not altered so that the United States can undertake such actions as above, in order to save the American economy. The United Nations Charter elsewhere makes much about promoting the welfare of everyone.

If the economy of the United States is shattered, then the welfare of all American will be harmed. The United States is not allowed to harm it's own citizens under the Charter. Therefore, not being able to modify the trade treaties would be in conflict with the obligations of the United States under the Charter to not harm its own citizens. Therefore, the United States must alter the trade treaties to save the American economy, and other nations must, under the Charter, allow the United States to do so.

Looked at from a slightly different perspective, international law cannot be used to force a nation to destroy itself.

No thanks. People should be free to choose what they buy without regards to their legal status as citizens.
