Pelosi: Families Of Benghazi Victims Have Asked Us Not To Launch New Committee

WASHINGTON -- "House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the families of victims of the 2012 Benghazi, Libya, attack have reached out to lawmakers to ask them not to launch another probe into the incident.

"Two of their families have called us and said, 'Please don't take us down this path again,'" Pelosi said during her weekly press conference. "It's really hard for them. It's very sad."

Rep. Louise Slaughter's (D-N.Y.) office confirmed that a family member from the maternal side of Tyrone Woods' family called on Thursday to express support for the congresswoman's position on the issue, which is that another probe is not necessary. Woods was one of the CIA contractors killed in the attack. A Democratic aide said another family also has reached out to Democrats.

Pelosi's remarks come as Democrats are trying to figure out what role, if any, they want to have in a new select committee on Benghazi that House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced this week. During her briefing, Pelosi says she's waiting to talk to Boehner personally before Democrats decide their next steps.

Not that she thinks the committee has any serious goals. She chalked up the formation of the new panel to Republicans wanting a fresh face for their ongoing political attacks on the matter. For months, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has been criticizing the administration over Benghazi in his role as chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Ongoing congressional probes into the incident have produced little new information, however.

"This is a stunt," Pelosi said. 'Issa is damaged goods. They had to move to another venue with another chairman.' "

IMO: Yet another round in 'the scandal that never was' as the republicans again decide to revisit an old outworn pseudo scandal to see if there could be anything else that the republican can glean from an unfortunate incident that lies at the feet of the Chair, Darrell Issa, and Oversight Committee for refusing taxpayer funds for extra security that had been requested by multiple leaders and soldiers stationed at Benghazi in the months leading up to the attack on the embassy and causing 4 American deaths in its aftermath.

For a political party to try to get more campaign leverage that they themselves refused funds for additional troops to safeguard the Embassy, this amounts to politicizing the deaths of Americans through the fault of the Chairman of the Oversight Committee, Darrell Issa in his paranoid need to place the whole drama at the feet of the Democrats, when they were the people that requested extra funds to protect themselves against attacks that they said were possible. Those funds were turned down multiple times by Issa and the Oversight Committee.

Is their hate and venom so strong that they would deliberately place the lives of the American Ambassador and troops over granting taxpayers' funds to further protect the lives of Americans in Benghazi?

This is a scandal that dearly wants a permanent home and we should hold an investigation as to why those funds were deliberately withheld from the soldiers and personnel at the Benghazi Embassy causing the deaths of 4 Americans in a resulting attack which republicans now want to use as campaign fodder in their rush to place blame elsewhere for those deaths..
anywhere but on themselves!

 

Obviously Obama has deployed his brownshirts to pressure these poor suffering people. We need a special investigation to look into this newest worse-than-Watergate abuse of blahblahblah. Volunteers?

Trace back the roots of four families and you'll have a pretty large number of people. It's nice they found one that would agree with them but statistically it's meaningless just like all huffpo articles.

They didn't count for much when relatives were being told the Obama-nauts would get the guy that produced that two bit video that "caused" our compound to burn down and their relatives to die totally abandoned by their government.

Show me the name of one single person that made decisions on security in Benghazi who said funding was a problem for them. I don't believe anything you say when you include falsehoods in your diatribe.

AQ was responsible for Benghazi. Keep downplaying them. I can't control that fact. Yeah racists exist too if that's where you are going. But even racists aren't wrong 100% of the time. This is about downplaying this Islamic extremist movement, that appears to be having much more success than we are being told. Mark my words, when Saudi falls to these guys, and Americans and the world start feeling the effects of this conflict, the world is going to start asking questions on how AQ and their buddies got so powerful, and wth were we doing the whole time.
