Recruits' Ineligibility Tests the Military

Half those videos weren't even American. Most of them were just equipment failures which does not reflect on the level of training of the soldiers, equipment failures happen. And several of them were the dudes just fing around. Like the sheep and the drop kicking the door. And not all of then were NATO either. The 3rd video was North Korea. The RPG video looked like Pakistanis, maybe ANA. Ect.

 

What Obama said, and the main thing is that he does, hear and see around the world. Through this, people perceive Americans. Obama was a private person, he could say what he wants. But he is the president. By this he must know how to perceive the words in the world. This is my opinion.

The US never lost one major battle with the North Vietnamese Army or the VC. We lost the political war due to it being dragged on for 15 years and Americans were growing tired of it. Johnson didn't have the stomach to take the war to Hanoi where the North Vietnamese leaders were and their stockpiles of SAM missiles because he feared the communists would take it out on the American POW's.

 

This justification. Only the result counts. American soldiers in Afghanistan, or sit in the barracks or guard crops poppy. Here, too, who's to blame?
If we talk about politics, the times are changing. Eg. For listening to one man, Richard Nixon resigned. Obama overhears the whole world - and nothing. Do not blame Johnson. He saved many lives.

 

In today's modern U.S. military, almost no physical activity is necessary or required. Everything is done with computers. If little, round fat boys are skilled gamers and know computers, then what's the problem?

 

And how exactly did Johnson save many lives?

The decreased number of eligible recruits means they will be paying more for the remaining qualified recruits. Maybe they will now pay a wage that agrees with the sacrifice our military members make.

Except in times of real threat and crisis, the military is the employer of last resort. As the task of being a grunt grows more technical and complex, fewer of the last resort level folks can meet the standard. After losing our two longest wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, fewer young people are attracted to the idea of having their legs blown off in some God-forsaken sh!thole on the other side of the world. Add to that the fact that Uncle Sam is too broke to pay his soldiers and we are heading for a big time downsizing of the military. Long overdue...

 

His gray is probably more the result of try to explain away Putins aggressive actions in Europe, I doubt anyone could do that since it is so obvious Putin wants to be Stalin II.

The German side of me has the solution to his problems and those of Eastern Europe, but then I am sure you guys could find another KGB Agent to tell you how to think and act. The US ARMY is the best trained, best equipped and most experienced Army on the planet, your hero Putin may very well get to find out how his heros fair against them if he keeps up his ambitions. This is true and it may some day make the draft return. The military needs to downsize if we are abandoning the middle east. I do know they are offering incentives and enlistment bonuses for certain high skill jobs.

 

Good idea but it isn't going to happen. The plan is a major downsize across the military board. Paying military personnel wages proportionate to the their risk and sacrifice will never happen. Imperialism would become unaffordable.

My son just got a sizable enlistment bonus and will get an extra $1k/month for the skills he learns as a retention incentive. The incentives are still there if you are qualified.

A little fat will come off, as I was at least 30 lb overweight when I went in the Army. After I was in a couple of years, I was able to max-out the fitness tests.

The biggest problem is women thinking they are fit for ground infantry combat. Women have only 60% the strength of men. Only a very few percent of women are cut out for that---probably less than 1 %. Added to fact they add the incentive for rape and sexual harrassment, have a non-deployment rate so bad that is covered-up by the military, and can get pregnant---that further negates combat effectiveness----women are best left left to serve as Fobbits.
