Because, like it or not, it's the law. You can't refuse service based on whether someone is gay or not. Go ask the cake maker in recent news about it.

Again, this is where you are wrong. Hetero or homo sexual acts are behaviors. The desire for opposite or same sex partners is a trait. You can still perform whatever act you want and that doesn't necessarily define you, although typically with sexual acts one would argue it does.

Not to totally derail this, but something I find interesting...as an observation, I find that people tend to congregate outside work or school into their own groups of like race or orientation...generally speaking. Stereotypes are typically viewed negatively, but you can't argue against some of them. I don't personally see all stereotypes as bad...or good...they are just potential identifiers that may describe a broader scale of information pertaining to the topic. For example, country music. Typically a stereotype for "rednecks", when the fact is many people like the genre of music and may not be rednecks. It can describe a demographic of folks with similar backgrounds, not only in their own life but through generations of their families as well. It's a cultural descriptor. Rap and hip-hop are similar cultural icons for African-Americans, yet there are plenty of white people who like rap and hip-hop too.

At work or in public we are required to treat everyone equally, but in our personal space and time we generally fall back to being with those who share similar traits. I think that's the perfect living analogy of what it means to be American.

A bit crude, but I agree with you in general. I don't care if you are gay or not, just stop with the headline news that you are. If you are being discriminated against, take it court, like anyone else would/has to, but stop with the need to make sure every news outlet runs front page announcements every time someone comes out of the closet.

For the most part I agree with all that. We have different opinions on Wether homosexual or hetero sex are behaviors or not, but oh well. I believe that simply being gay shouldn't stop you from purchasing items or services but I believe store owners reserve the right to not allow certain things in their places. If they don't want to see homosexual acts such as men kissing, that's their right. Just like with no shirt/ shoes, no service. Nudists would have to change their behavior to use these stores or restaurants.

 

Not at all. I am quite aware of the sybolism, and very much in favor of it. I think the way our society has historically treated homosexuals is vile, I'm glad that, ever so slowly, it's coming to an end, and it gives me pleasure to see people who like treating them like (*)(*)(*)(*) freaking out because their way is dying.

Diversity describes variations, differences, i.e. individuality and uniqueness within a given group.
