Egypt has proposed a cease fire between Israel and Gaza. Israel government had a meeting this morning and decided to accept the cease fire proposal. Hamas, responded negatively so far. Let us see in the coming say what develops.
If Egypt plays the role of the mediator and if Hamas takes this seriously, there are actually some possibilities of positive developments. In such a context, the direct involvement of an Arab regional power is welcome [I guess that the rockets fallen on an Egyptian military compound in Sinai have suggested something to the leaders at El Cairo ...].
The United States must be involved as without the U.S. such Arab run Peace Accords quickly turn into a Blame Game. AboveAlpha
Hamas wasn't even invited to discuss the cease fire so what does that tell you about Egypt and Israel? It tells us that it was a farce. - - - Updated - - - Hamas was not invited to the cease fire talks. So expect no positive developments. This was a show put on by Egypt and Israel.
The US have such a poor record since Obama entered office, that it cannot contribute anything right now. They messed their relationships with everybody in the ME so badly, no one trust them anymore.
Yes, I know, a cease file and a terror organization, nothing in common. Indeed a farce. Unfortunately that farce already caused many deaths in Gaza. I see you want to see many more before this farce is over.
They have serious disagreements. I'm fine with them fighting it out. Children die, that's life.

I have no idea why Western people even care at all. It's half way around the world, let them sort their own problems out.
I agree that the current administrations Foreign Policy record is dismal. But the former Bush Administrations Foreign Policy was beyond IDIOTIC!! I know this because I along with my Team had to CONSTANTLY be fixing PROBLEMS. The Invasion of Iraq for instance was done because it was felt that a massive demonstration of U.S. Military power must take place as Afghanistan was considered too remote a place for Media to document operations and Iraq allowed us to show a BROAD SWORD DEMONSTRATION that the entire wold media could view. For the second time, we have the same evaluation of a situation. I'm shocked by these positive developments . But yeah, it tends to go like this: Palestinian demonstration> False promises leading to a temporary truce> Violence starts again. It's clear that the West needs to govern the area like we did with the Occupied AXIS States. Failure to do so will eventually lead to a humanitarian crisis, and that's the real issue here.
Egypt and Israel ... curious couple, isn't it? Anyway, let's think positive, let's give them a possibility. Personally I think that this attempt will fail [as many other] and so the conflict could reach a point of no return, but I've still got a little reserve of trust in rational persons with responsibilities [in Israel and in Palestine, about Hamas, I don't find how to put together the words "Hamas" and "rationality", anyway ...].
It is not Hamas, it is society that breeds Hamas. See Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, ... If Hamas is eradicated another group of terrorists will rise to take control. Israel should not have a single fighter killed for those idiots as long as it can contain their violence without too much trouble. Soon enough, when they figure out they cannot harm Israel, they will direct the violence internally just like in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan...
Watching BBC report now, they are saying ceasefire amounts to surrender. Wants border crossings opened. And it goes on........
No, the US is not trusted by the Palestinians for a very good reason; its unconditional support of Israel.
Obama doesn't control Hamas. Hamas was founded in 1987 (during the First Intifada) as a foil against Arafat and the PLO with support from Israel. Sabeel and others tried to stop the recruiting, but the recruiting was going on in the meanest and most poverty stricken of old refugee camps.
i'm so glad a bunch of European Ashkenazis have agreed to temporarily stop killing Palestinians in their own homeland ! We should be so grateful !
good joke, ceasefire over 50 missiles today. All Hamas needed to do is show that they want to stop the killing and the war and the terms would be negotiated afterwards, but they showed what they want, they want to fire missiles and they want to fight, so if this is what they want, this is what they get. You can't blame us for needing to protect our citizens. One rocket and one bomb alarm in your neighberhood and you will know exactly what were talking about. If there was no Iron Dome, I fear the results would be much much worse including death of Israeli's and rocket on sky buildings in Tel Aviv that would have caused much much destruction.
Rockets were fired not from outside Israel, but from occupied Palestine, which is under Israeli control, making itit difficult for the Arab League, NATO, or anyone else to do anything about. It seems clear that the US, like the rest of the world, should recognize a Palestinian state.
