You know, if you are a politician, if you do not say stupid and offensive things, you don't have to apologize.

Not that the apology seems sincere, claiming that Democrats simply did not have a sense of humor. After he accused the other candidate of wanting bankrupt Christians for not endorsing his sodomy, which seems like an od charge, he went on to say the guy was on his beheading Christians in America.

Never fear folks. He closed his pseudo apology with the ice bucket challenge.

Kudos to the GOP for joining in on denouncing this nonsense.

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Republican state legislative candidate Gordon Klingenschmitt is being condemned by both parties after a newsletter he wrote over the weekend to his constituents criticizing Democratic Congressman Jared Polis’s “Employment Non-Discrimination Act.”

In a section of the newsletter, Klingenschmitt wrote “The open persecution of Christians is underway. Democrats like Polis want to bankrupt Christians who refuse to worship and endorse his sodomy. Next he'll join ISIS in beheading Christians, but not just in Syria, right here in America.”

Colorado House Speaker Mark Ferrandino, D-Denver, released a statement today:

“The Colorado Republican Party has squandered their credibility over and over again with these kinds of over the top and offensive remarks,” Ferrandino said. “They are far behind the people of Colorado when it comes to issues of basic fairness, civil rights, and apparently even common decency.”

State GOP leader Ryan call told our partners at KDVR, “Gordon, as I’ve said before, does not speak for the Colorado Republican Party,” Call said.

Klingenschmitt apologized in a YouTube video.

“I used hyperbole. You know what hyperbole is…it’s a literary device where you exaggerate to make a point,” Klingenschmitt said. “Apparently some Democrats do not have a sense of humor and they were offended by some of the things I said using hyperbole this weekend, so I want to issue a personal apology to you Congressman Jared Polis.”

A few seconds later, Klingenschmitt dumped a bucket of ice water over his head and challenged Polis, Ferrandino and Call to join in the “ALS ice bucket challenge.”

Good, we can all sleep a little easier knowing that he has apologized.

Unlikely you'll find many rightwingers critical of Klingenschmitt, even for that kind of insanity.

Probably....they'll try to change the subject or do a "This is no story...move on".

    :)

Klingenschmitt is an idiot and shouldn't be elected. Republicans should learn from Democrats and carefully hide their offensive and insensitive views from the public.

This is all that needs to be said on the subject.

Apparently you didn't bother to read the article. I'm not surprised. The idea of a politician apologizing must be shocking to a leftist. Since leftists have no sense of responsibility they can have no sense of shame so the need to apologize, for anything, simply isn't there for leftists.

The things he said were disgusting. AND the FACT he combined it with a good cause like the ALS challenge makes it even more in bad taste.

This one is a no-brainer. He absolutely should be condemned by both sides!! And I'm happy to see my fellow Republicans doing the right thing!!
