Well obviously that but why do they want the cash in the first place? Is it because they're addicted to drugs or is it because they don't have enough to pay for rent and food is the lesser of the two needs?

Who knows? Not to say everyone is a drug addict, but my brother buys food stamps or food from people who are on food stamps all the time. They'll buy $100 worth of meat or whatever and sell it to him for $50. He has a spare fridge and deep freezer full of discount food he's bought from people who use food stamps to purchase it.

One person does not do something just because they can do it. There's always a reason behind it.

    Yeah I doubt that.

Great for you to have these thoughts. Go for it when it comes time to elect someone for office.

Really? Doesn't seem like a smart thing but I get the logic behind it.

You mean the link where it says they increased the amount of people looking into this, even though the OP's article said the exact opposite?

If the purpose of post 31 was to see if I read the links or not, I would say I showed you that I read them.

Last I heard it was $0.50 on the dollar, might get $0.30 on a junkie, but it's out there. Such a ridiculous program is just waiting to be exploited, and is EVERY DAY! The amounts the government gives is WAY too high for subsistence needs...

I can solve this I have a plan. Have government run food centers with basic but good food that is largely healthy and well what most people consider FOOD including seasonal fruit, vegetables and when not in season canned food all off brands then they get an account at the local center OR in rural areas a food box per adult and child of good food and things like milk. Then take away other options. I would add only gardening things and for those wishing to grow food. That would end the BS if the best you can get is a box of off brand corn flakes and milk with cheap sugar substitute for one example.

Still right over your head. The OP was speaking about the Federal level. My links concerned Mass which is a state. Again now do i have to explain the difference to you?

Since they are the only ones eligible for the benefit, yes.

Are you really going to try to paint a picture that the rich are doing this?

    Gimme a break.

If they are 18 plus... they are adults.

The willfully ignorant regarding the rampant abuse of our social services will never come around.

My father pays for it for me, and its basic broadband plugged into a low cost laptop he also provided me. My benefit is based on being on Medicaid and needing additional food for my nutritional needs as recommended by my Nutritionist, my income until I get SSI (very likely now) is $0. Since I'm in my fathers household his income counts in somewhat.

Internet is not that expensive my dial-up was $7.95 a month and then Broadband is around $20 a month.

When I get SSI the amount I get will drop from $125 a month to likely $50 a month, but even for me we are talking a year to get it. But I don't waste it stretching that using coupons, BOGO deals and buying store brands focusing on foods in the diet my Nutritionist set-up. In short I'm doing my end of the Social Contract you pay for these benefits and I try to stay healthy and do what is prescribed so I avoid added costs to the system. The last treat for me was ,on sale, a quart of sugar free ice cream that lasted a week and had milk in it so was a calcium item and I had a coupon and it was on sale a dollar off.

That is the way they used to do it.

I grew up on welfare...the first saturday of every month we would go to the agriculture department and get our monthly allotment of food.

The milk was powdered, the meat was canned, the sugar and flour was in 50 pound bags, and there were no sweets or sodas.

It mostly tasted like sh*t but at least it would keep you alive.

Unfortunetly, as crap-food producers see there share of the government dole cut out, they will likely move to stop it. that and all the people who LOVE them their oreos. :/ It's a good idea otherwise though.

What ever social contact you think you have with me comes from the land of make believe.

I don't owe you anything anymore than I expect from you, which is nothing.

Can I ask exactly what prevents you from working and sustaining yourself?

In the states that have imposed drug testing on SNAP recipients, they have found almost no drug use. The Florida and similar programs have cost the taxpayers much more than they have saved by kicking off the few who have tested positive. http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2014/08/07/3468610/tennessee-welfare-drug-test-positive/

You poor guys, you don't understand economics. By limiting what can be bought with food stamps, all you are doing is making the prohibited products more expensive for the poor and creating a business opportunity for a smart operator.

Limit me to buying ground beef and potatoes? OK, I trade Two sacks of potatoes for a can of beer, Two pounds of ground beef for a pack of cigarettes! That's how it works, the poor get poorer and the smart operator gets richer.

So we should allow people to buy beer with other people's money?
