IN THREAD WARNING here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/...d-chick-fil-a-founder-obituary_n_5782252.html imho - a good Christian man who stood by his beliefs, a good man. Created a successful business model, pays better than min wage
A good man who started a company that employs 1000s , pays them above the competition, trains them well, offers college assistance, benefits and closes the place on Sundays while offering a better experience than others. What an evil SOB.
I had never been a customer of that chain, but after the despicable attempts by the sociopathic mentally ill sexual fetishists to ruin it, I now stop into the local restaurant at least once a week and buy something. RIP
I am for gay marriage but you can't taste bigotry. They're opening one in my town, I'll give it a try.
Supporters of Cathy soon forgot to go eat at Chik-Fil-A twice a day, five days a week to "show their support" for his antipathy towards gays. A new Bright Shiny Object was thrown at them by Rightwing Media and they "moved on". Opponents of Cathy however....still don't eat at CFA. And they enjoy the fact that the polls now show majority support for gay marriage, as do almost all the court decisions. Cathy himself was just a man....what he stood for, is dying as well.
Someone who achieved the "American Dream" of starting a business and watching it grow and grow.....hiring thousands and thousands of people. I'd say that's more than "just another dead rich guy." It would be far more appropriate phrase to use when say....the King or Queen of England who never lifted a finger in their entire lives, dies.
Anyone who knows Truett Cathy knows that he's not just another rich man. The entire Cathy family is very quick to help with contributions for any need in the Jonesboro area. Truett, even at an advanced age never hid from the public but talked with him. I first met him in 2006 at a Dwarf House. The restaurant was backed up and he put on an apron to help out. As a customer, I wondered how many owners still visited their local restaurants. Let's just say that Wednesday, traffic in Jonesboro is going to very backed up. They will have to shut down the streets for this funeral. The First Baptist Church is often referred to as Chick Fil A Baptist by the locals. He will be missed. I don't think you encounter a family with more class when it comes to handling adversary. Remember when Dan Cathy was asked a question about marriage. He stated his view that all of the leadership of CFA (all family) was still married to the first wives. This drew condemnation because he is not in favor of same sex marriage or divorce. People came together in a day to support the CFA. There were lines at every restaurant that went for hours. Customers showed their support. Then the gay crowd decided to protest at all the stores in the Atlanta market. CFA, in a move of true class, refused to have the removed from the property. They even sent out lemonade and iced tea, as the day got hotter. When Atlanta was choked by an unusual snow and ice storm… Yes, I know two whole inches. CFA opened its restaurants so that stranded travelers could use the bathrooms, tables and even fed them with no charge.
Ultra-partisans made the old boy into a symbol of prejudices that are being consigned to oblivion, but he was mainly about selling dead bird parts, and he did it very successfully. His ol' timey religion is succumbing to moral progress (except in Islamic theocracies under sharia law, of course) but his chicken business lives on as an apt tribute to the man. I admire anyone who seizes upon improbable opportunities and runs with them. RIP, TC!
A complex man who I think supported some bad people, but in the end a person made in the image of God. He will be missed by many. May he be embraced by the Eternal and May he rest in peace.
Great........so this means that I won't be able to try out one of those vaunted Chic Filet sandwiches that everyone swoons over. Usually when the person that started the business ie Sam Walton passes away and the company is run by the kids or some faceless board the quality of the product goes downhill in their never ending quest to cut costs including quality.
Chick Fil A pays above minimum wage. They start crew members out at $8 - $9 an hour and pay experienced crew members $10 - $12 per hour. They also offer scholarships to those crew members that want to go to school. While that wage may seem low, it is a starting wage. You move up as you prove your worth to the company and learn more. I'm sure that you will just look for another reason to hate CFA. After all, it was founded by a right wing, Christian. http://www.job-applications.com/chick-fil-a-team-member/
No, it was started by a guy who donated to groups that contributed to the persecution gay people around the world. You want me to prove that, I will. And no, I find no reason to admire such a person. But lots of people who do bad things have also done good things. How that person is viewed by others depends where those others are sitting.
of course he knew he was dying, so what did he care at that point... hope he has finally found peace with himself now that he no longer feels the need to force his beliefs on others now that he knows God isn't the asszhole he believed him to be
