That's what Heller says you can do. The zealots think you can. Glad to see you're not one

With the proper license you can. But also remember, full auto laws are not that old. And please point to a massive crime spree where full auto guns were used.

Full auto or burst mode for home defense? Where you store the firearm at home and can legally use it to fend off and intruder? I know there are special exceptions for gun clubs and firing ranges which is not the same as using it for home defense.

True, since 1986 if I am remembering correctly.

If fully auto and burst fire weapons were as easy to get as a hunting rifle or hand gun then the bad guys would certainly be using the military grade MP5's, AK's, and SAW's. If you can get a SAW for home defense then the bad guys can get them to use too. How do you make full auto firearms legal while keeping them out of the hands of criminals? Remember Al Capone? Bonnie and Clyde? I don't like the idea of gang bangers having easy access to Tommy Guns and BAR's. I know some of the bad guys do have full auto, but making those firearms more readily available just shoots society in the foot.

Owners of ClassIII licensed firearms are under no such limits, if its the only weapon you have. You dont need to be a victim.
Please, gangs have access to any type of weapon under the sun. Stop with the hysteria and hyperbole.
And just like clock work this has turned in to the playing of extremes by the anti gun side. Ew what about nukes, oh, what about drones, oh what about fighter jets and machine guns.

Yes you are right, it was banning guns that made Japan a more law abiding society than the US.... That is what is known as maroon logic.

If you think there's balance, you're delusional.

Are you trying to make some sort of bizarre analogy between getting a flat tire or kitchen fire to a tyrannical takeover by the US government of its citizens? SERIOUSLY???

Please refer back to my comments about delusion and paranoia.

Yes in a way it is broken...But we have some that want to completely break that balance that is needed to insure a free state.

I also believe we the people should have necessary tools to eavesdrop on our government to make sure of it integrity.

Maybe....just maybe the reason why our government hasn't resorted to tyrannical YET is precisely that we the people are armed.

Lord knows few people would love nothing more then a tyrannical government to impose their will onto society.

Perhaps the reason is that the government just isn't as evil as some would portray. That perhaps the government is actually comprised of real people with real families just like you and me.

Okay, I will give the leftist the benefit of the doubt and assume that the right to bear arms increases homicides somewhat (a very generous assumption I might add...). What needs to be noticed that this is under normal circumstances. If for example a dictatorial government (no doubt a wet dream for many of the gun-control people) tries to take over, that's much more easy when the people are unarmed. What leftists essentially seem to be advocating is a small improvement now at the cost of an increased risk of a catastrophic event, not a very sound risk-management position to take.

Reasonable people realize that the chances of a dictator taking control of the US is nil. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

It's the paranoiacs that are consumed with that possibility. Exactly the type of people we DON'T want owning guns!

I'd recommend some serious medication for you. Those voices in your head telling you the black helicopters are after you aren't real. Just your imagination. Seek help. Immediately.

I see. So you get to decide who can or cannot have guns.
Precisely why we the people have the II Amendment.....to defend ourselves against authoritarians.

Yeah, and in the 1990s and early 2000s a financial crisis in the US was impossible, so let's deregulate the banks to make them slightly more efficient... And what do you base than on anyway? Just (very bad) guess at a probability that no-one can know but that has very bad consequences. Ever read Black Swan? Or maybe you don't read that much?

Canadian crime data for 2012 is found here: http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/85-002-x/2013001/article/11854-eng.htm?fpv=269303#a10

From the data tables, violent crime in Canada in 2012 was about 490 per 100,000 people (the table says 1,190 but that includes crimes (such as uttering a threat) that are not included in the US measure of violent crime). In the US it was 387 (from the FBI UCR) and violent crime is homicide, attempted murder, aggravated assault (assault 2 & 3 for Canada), sexual assault, robbery.

Its best to go to the data itself. Reports and summaries always try to put a positive spin on crime and are usually full of "crime is down 3%" type statements rather than stating actual numbers.

Its a myth that America is much more violent than other industrial countries - certain parts of America have a crime problem but not the nation as a whole. Crime in the US is concentrated in the large cities, its a very strong correlation. For example, in cities of 1,000,000 the violent crime rate is 706 per 100,000 people, in suburban areas its 252, in rural areas its 179. And as you might expect, even in the large cities crime is concentrated in certain areas.

The real question is not "what makes America so violent?" The real question is "why have our large cities failed?" My claim is that the people in those cities are trapped with no education, no good schools, no jobs, no transportation, no ownership in their community, and a failed political structure. They have no hope, no way out, are frustrated, and turn to crime.
