You can't let the " 'murcans " know that there is a way to run prisons other than massive walls and iron bars. After all, in the US it's the only form of public housing that's been invested in for the past 4 decades.
If we ended the war on drugs and communicated all drug sentences we could shut half the prisons down in a month but no we wanna play this stupid game of criminalizing drug use
This is a small prison--115 beds. It's populated by a selected group of prisoners, who have been chosen for Basically speaking, if a prisoner is an escape risk, they keep him in a conventional prison. It's a nice liberal fantasy that this prison is a maximum security prison for violent inmates, but pretty much this is the equivalent of an American "country club" prison. It's for select prisoners who aren't a danger to society. With that kind of prisoner, you can draw a line on the ground, and they won't escape. Yes, but probably the majority of the people in American prisons would fit into this type of group. America locks away all sorts of people for non-violent crimes, for many many years, often the crime was not even that bad.
