Republicans on Capitol Hill began to lash out at President Obama Wednesday after he announced plans to unveil executive actions on immigration in a primetime address Thursday evening.

“The president is throwing this nation into a crisis and we have an obligation to do our duty, here, and in the Senate,” Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) told reporters.

Obama purposely timed the announcement, King said, to coincide with lawmakers leaving Washington Thursday for Thanksgiving recess. King said he’s staying behind in Washington to deal with the issue.

“I decided in an instant, I’m staying,” he said.

King laid out three steps the House could take to respond to Obama, including a resolution of rejection, censuring Obama and defunding the order to prevent its implementation. He stopped short of supporting impeachment.

“I don’t want to go down that path. We have lived through that and it put the nation through a lot of trauma,” he added.

Some Republicans expressed frustration that Obama invited only Senate and House Democrats to dinner Wednesday evening to huddle before the announcement.

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said the fact that Republicans were not invited signals that Obama is creating “the beginning of a political campaign” that provokes “partisan warfare” and not a bipartisan agreement.

“Why would you do this on the eve of Thanksgiving, going into holidays, unless you want to create a political fight?" Cole asked. "I mean I’m mystified by the political calculus."

Republicans should have been included in Wednesday’s dinner, said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

“I think that’s endemic of how the president has run his office,” she said. “He has been unwilling to reach out to Republicans.”

    They are outraged....and aggrieved.....and incensed....and infuriated...and insulted...and scandalized....and shocked...and affronted....and so very, very outraged!!!

And as Steve King said.....if this goes on? They MIGHT possibly consider thinking about maybe contemplating the idea of issuing a strongly worded resolution .....or maybe censuring the President with a wet noodle.....or even?

defunding the Citizenship and Immigration Service so that all the immigration agents are furloughed so they can't go to work deporting people....because Obama will order them to stop deporting people!

Yeah, yeah....that'll show ol' Obama how outraged they are!!!!!

Oh, yeah and Michele Bachmann just un-Friended the President on Facebook!!!!

    :)

They can't defund something that doesn't cost a dime.

Tis is gonna be the lamest of the lame duck presidencies, ever. The schmuck whom no one like is gonna try to do things that no one wants. How did America ended up with such a president? Ah yes, an affirmative action plus "it's about time we have us black president!"

Watch new campaign starting soon, "it's about time we have us a women president!"

The Congress can (*)(*)(*)(*)ing defund anything, even Obama's golf clubs.

If this is such a great thing and is good for America why did he wait till after the elections? If this is what over 50% of the people want in America why wait?

LoL I guess you guys are into the president passing things without approval and getting smacked down by the supreme court

Gonna have it happen once again huh? What is that like the 7th time in Obama's presidency that he's been (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) slapped by the supreme court?

So he's going to unilaterally pass amnesty against the wishes of the American people... force the democrats in the senate to support him... (*)(*)(*)(*) off the American people all so that his EO can be overturned by the Supreme Court?

You guys are genius lol There's going to be a republican supermajority in the house and the senate with a 5-4 conservative supreme court, a republican president and if Ginsburg dies a 6-3 conservative supreme court.

Yeah it's a horrible idea... please don't do that lol

Please suh, don't throw us into that brer-patch!

Explain EXACTLY how if the President orders immigration agents to NOT deport people....how Congress would de-fund that? Go ahead.

    - - - Updated - - -

As a young White House attorney, John Roberts argued for EXPANDING the executive powers of the President.

What happens when President Obama's counsel stands before Roberts at the USSC....and quotes him his own words???

If something does not cost any funds, it cannot be defunded.

USCIS is a fee based organization, and it doesn't cost CPB anything to NOT deport people.

    Good luck...

Because those immigrants will have to APPLY for that program of deferred deportation. And applying means manpower, time, buildings, electricity, paper, etc etc etc

All of which will have no funding. And no funding means those applications sit in a box somewhere. Hell they could even defund the box lol

He'll look at them and say that expanding the executive powers is fine, but not in this manner. He can't use executive powers to expand executive powers. If he wants to expand executive powers he'll have to go through congress.

Eventually they will realize that the only way to stop Obama's executive action is to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Obama uses word twisting to get his way. Like telling Americans it's not a tax then passing it as a tax.
He will do the same here. I'm sure he will use some twisted definition of a word to get his way.
After all he is a bottom feeding lawyer

He's lost more times than he's won in the courts abusing his powers.

I'm almost certain I heard the President state just yesterday that his duty was to uphold the laws of the land. lol

Maybe he meant only the laws that he and his particular set of billionaire contributors agree with.

I'm beginning to think the term, "GOPers" is misspelled; should be "Goobers".

The fact is, this is political theater. For the republicans wanted all of these illegals here, for cheap labor for their constituents. The republicans have not enforced or fund immigration law sufficiently, so as to allow the flow to continue. The dems have not been in control all of those years since Reagan.

Look at the lack of action from the repubs, and ignore their rhetoric.

No, the GOP Congress could impeach him.............:D

No, let's stay serious. Yes...that's it. And it was what Boehner and McConnell wanted. (Ref: 2013 GOP "Autopsy Report")

But now, they can't do that without REALLY angering their Base because it would be called by the Far Right "an even WORSE sell-out given it's giving Obama his amnesty".

Obama has put them in a box...but it's a box the GOP built with 40+ years of pandering to bigots.

To the lunatic left it's "logical" to say it costs nothing to administer the laws and doings of the government.
That's a frightening insight into the mind of Obama supporters.

Again, I hear a lot of COMPLAINING....but I don't hear too many SPECIFIC details on what Republicans can DO about it?

Even Steve King's suggestions are weak or non-starters.

    - - - Updated - - -

So what will the GOP do? De-fund the CIS?....and all the CIS agents go on furlough and thus?...

    are unable to deport anybody?
    :)

    Don't need to stop it.

Like I said before. All that needs to happen is the Republicans to pass a government funding bill with language attached to it that says the president can't issue executive orders on amnesty or immigration (or something to that effect).

That will force the president to either sign the government funding bill and remove his ability to pass those EO's... or to veto the government funding bill and shut down the government for the sole purpose of unilaterally bypassing the American people on legislation that they don't want.

The bill will then go back to the senate and the senate democrats will have to determine if they're willing to shut down the government so that the president can unilaterally pass legislation that the vast majority of Americans don't want. If they choose to do so it will be a MASSACRE in 2016.

No he hasn't lol He's put the DEMOCRATS into a box

It's going to end up being either fund the government or sign his EO at the expense of shutting down the government and the democrats will be forced to support him or reject him.

The republicans are going to reject his sorry ass either way. It's the democrats who will have a choice to make.

Mitch McConnell has said NUMEROUS times....there will be no Government Shutdowns on his watch.

So good ol' Mitch just knee-capped your "plan"...before it even started. Even other conservative Senators have said "Nope, no more Shutdowns"....

because they remember what happened to them in October 2013.

    Next?

Yeah because Mitch McConnell has never said anything and contradicted himself later right? lol

And furthermore, it's not a government shutdown on the republicans part. That would be a government shutdown on the part of the president. The republicans will have passed their part of the government funding. So McConnell can say he did his part.

The fact you don't see this as political suicide for the democrats is OUTSTANDINGLY hilarious to me.
