So what? Work somewhere else. That's the beautiful freedom of choice you have in the United States of America. You guys are such cardboard martyrs. You act like you are being forced to work for a specific company when, in reality, they don't even have to hire you at all.

If you don't want to work holidays, apply at a place that isn't open on holidays. Logic 101. Very, very simple.

ideally that would be the case

but in reality there are limited job opportunities for many of these people, and the employers know it

If there was more job opportunities, and the workers could pick up and move elsewhere, I'm sure the employers would be a lot more careful how they treat their workers.

Of course the first one to complain when they can't get gas, food or whatever they need on a holiday will be a progressive.

These people have to work because other people need things.

I could only imagine the outrage a progressive atheist would have if - God forbid (no pun intended) - stores were closed on Christmas.

Oh well, you can thank the progressives for all these "limited" jobs. Maybe progressives should treat job providers better and maybe there would be more jobs hence more opportunities.

I plan to boycott those stores on Thanksgiving because after all the cooking I'm going to be doing and the clean up afterwards and a football game I want to watch...I'm going to be too tired to go shopping. :clapping:

Cable and utility guys should just be "on call" in case something happens, however if someone works at a restaurant or store/gas station they shouldn't complain.

I've had to work holidays but I'm not complaining, it comes with the job.

I, uh ... what? Bush got voted out because Radio Shack is going bankrupt while some Browser was on an oil field or, uhm ... huh? :confusion:

+1 to both these comments. I hired onto places like that EXPECTING to work holidays. I didn't even mind working on my birthday back when I was in college, I needed the money too badly - and besides, after I moved out, I gave my birthday about the same weight as Columbus Day. What's next, someones gonna complain because hospital staff need to work on Christmas too?

Luckily for me, I work at Wendy's and our store is closed on Thanksgiving. But even if we were open, I wouldn't complain if I was scheduled to come in and work.

At the end of the day, it all translates into money anyway, so why complain?

BS, you can thank the corps for sending to many jobs overseas and Americans for buying too many foreign imports

money is leaving America on the front and back end...... not a good scenario to be in

Thanksgiving and the day after are not the busiest days of the year. That is lie.........

The idea that stores have to be open on Thanksgiving is stupid.
Comparing retail workers to first responders or hospital employees is just as bad.

    - - - Updated - - -

    again showing the stupid..........

I posted on facebook about this. I personally am not going to go to a store on Thanksgiving as my boycott. That said, I was criticized by people who did work on Thanksgiving, as they said it was volunteer only, and they were getting time and a half, and they really didn't want to be with their family anyway.

    1. You forgot to list every Hotel, Motel, Restaurant, hospital, resident health center, police, fire, utility, airline, train stations, car rental, and most convenience stores and gas stations.

If you want to act outraged by this, might as well go all the way.

    Oops... you already covered this.

My post was just redundant then.

I'm going to boycott my telephone company this weekend.... so don't anyone bother calling me.

Unfortunately, in today's economy, many people have no choice, not if they want to avoid being homeless.

Unfortunately, in today's world there are lots of people with no families. It's not like these merchants are ripping apart Norman Rockwell traditions... many folks are no doubt glad to have someplace to go... besides the movies. Others might be more than glad to get away from their family.

If you don't wanna shop on Thanksgiving, don't. Boycotting stores for being open is dumb. Not your business.

Actually, boycotting companies with policies that you disagree with makes perfect sense. More people should do it. It is your business where you spend your money.

you think your phone wont run this weekend without someone manually running your data down the inner-tubes, most companies have a moratorium on any changes for the entire week, just to make sure no one has to work on those days
