You must have missed it. In response to the statement "Big government and the Patriot Act are not the same thing," it was explained that, "They're absolutely the same thing."

Hence, policies that pre-dated the "Patriot Act" could not have constituted "Big Government" - only the Bush's "Patriot Act."

    Re:

Whine as they will, you would think that the GOP's rabid wacko birds would realize that - after they failed spectacularly to fool the American public into blaming Democrats for Carnval Cruz and his goon squad shutting down Yellowstone in their temper tantrum over the ACA - since the ploy fizzled the first time they tried it, it would be even more likely to do so when they tried it again?

One wishes the colours of the little Repub Crayola® and Democrat Crayola® were reversed.

Yea... Democrats loved the idea to boot.

Of course the elitist progressives loved the Patriot Act.... I'm sure before the ink was dry they were thinking "wow how can we use this to further our agenda and silence dissenters."

In cases where it's the government against a citizen, we find that the current SCOTUS Republicans consistently side with the big government, and the Democrat Justices consistently side with the individuals. In doing so, they are voting along party lines that match the legislature.

Could you identify them specifically, and explain how they expressed their ardour?

Big government and police state are not the same thing.

We've had a fairly large government for some time now, but the Security Industrial Complex is a relatively new thing.

And it's something that we need to stop now.

Republicans should have sent a bill that would pass.

there would be a shutdown to some degree. CBP and ICE agents may not be affected, but DHS is much more than CBP and ICE or USCIS. Some 100,000 government workers could be affected if DHS is not fully funded by the end of next week and the GOP has lost their argument on more than one occasion. To keep continuing down the same path that got them in trouble the last time is neither prudent nor wise. It is political stupidity.

There is one thing that is confusing me. The Republicans control Congress. Why can't they put together some reasonable legislation that would supersede Obama's executive orders? Then when the Democrats filibuster or Obama vetoes, use that against them in 2016.
