University of California Berkeley’s Black Student Union has released a list of demands issued to the administration, including the renaming of a campus building for fugitive cop-killer and FBI-designated terrorist Assata Shakur.

BSU’s demands follow the hanging of effigies depicting lynchings at various locations on campus in December, BSU member Cori McGowens told the Daily Californian.

Shakur, whose real name is Joanne Chesimard, was convicted in 1977 for the 1973 murder of New Jersey state trooper Werner Foerster during a traffic stop, where, during an altercation, she took the officer’s gun and shot him twice in the head as he lay on the ground.

Shakur, a member of the Black Liberation Army, escaped from prison in New Jersey in 1979 and resurfaced in Cuba in 1984, where she was given political asylum. The BLA is credited with killing more than a dozen police officers in the 1970s and 1980s.http://www.wnd.com/2015/03/berkeley-black-students-name-building-for-cop-killer/#uPodKAcTHwyjpgWE.99

There is no doubt that the moral compass of the young black population is at an all time low.

And they wonder why law enforcement may have fear and bias against them.
Perhaps Texas A&M can reciprocate and name one of their buildings after James Earl Ray!

The fact it's at Berkeley is hardly surprising

I seriously can't see any reasonable person supporting this. It should be irrelevant.

Of course it is. No one in here will support it.

You're going to be quite bored.

The black students at Cal (all 3 of them) were complaining because blacks werent being included.

Then they want an all inclusive building for black students....and they want to name it after a cop killer?

Yea....ok....they read Rules for Radicals FOR SURE.

On reading this, I had to laugh at the insanity of California even though its not funny.

California has been considered the bell weather of the nation in social trends, they say as California goes, so goes the nation. If true, it won't be much longer before this "progressive" fundamental transformation causes it all to come crashing down.

I'm a born and raised Californian and can tell you first hand how out of touch some of these (*)(*)(*)(*)ing loons are.
However, I'm starting to see a small change in attitude in the last 4-5 years, and there is no doubt the latest media race baiting is helping that change.

I hope they are realizing their insanity, but I hope its not too late. The "progressives" are likely to pull us all down with them.

Spent 21 years in Corona, CA, and married a California girl. She had never been out of CA except for vacations and when we moved to Texas she said she would never go back CA - ever! You have to get out of that state and look at it from a distance to really see how screwed up it is.

    - - - Updated - - -

What can you say about a state that believes high school exit exams are racist because certain people can't pass them?

It's unfair to file this under just another thing progressives do....The absolute vast majority of liberals and progressives alike would not agree with this. Literally only a handful of people are actually behind this in comparison to the whole country and state of California.

I find the idea of such an atrocious idea succeeding funny, as well as the anger it would cause. It's over the top enough that it stops being offensive and loops back around to being impossible to take seriously.

The leftist bubbles in college are seemingly going to get more and more ridiculous until a bunch of them leave en masse to join ISIS or commit "revolutionary suicide."

It could be any state school campus today. We have state universities which have named part of their campus " Red Square". We have had state schools purchase a statue of Lenin or Stalin to display in a prominent place. They invite a convicted murderer to deliver the commencement address.
This is what our college campuses have become. They are a breeding ground for extreme leftists of all stripes.

There wasn't a problem in naming all kinds of things after racist slave owners and Civil War traitors from the South. So people need to chill.

I agree that most transplanted Californians do okay once they grow accustomed to the fact that in Texas personal freedom and personal responsibility are NOT mutually exclusive notions. There are, however, some former Californians who while glad to escape from over taxed and over-regulated California are unable to resist the temptation to turn around and TRY LIKE HELL to do the exact same thing to Texas; but so far Texans in general have managed to resist their best efforts in transforming the Lone Star State into Lah-Lah-Land Mark II, Mod I.

Progressives love pandering to small minority groups - it makes them feel super progressive and morally superior to oppress the majority.

Also, the argument these racist blacks are using to name this building after Shakur (sp) is a conspiracy theory sob story that progressives will surely buy...

They're saying that Shakur was a victim of 'white oppression' so she had to join a radical racist black organization for survival and she had to kill a cop for survival (or in some cases didn't kill a cop at all) and she had to flee to Cuba for survival...

One of the big things blacks claim they want is respect. It will be a cold day in hell before they get any respect for wanting to name a building after a cop killer. Just how stupid can they be??????
