I have noticed that you base all of your "logic" upon "people you know".

It is the Missouri river that goes along the north east boarder of Kansas then turns and goes east across Missouri to Saint Louis. And the river boats "casinos" do go out on river cruises. Has any one ever heard of Google or bing or yahoo? Only had to type Kansa City casino boat and there it was. They are not cruises as in going out over night out for days, they crusies as in going out see the scenery gamble a little bit, drink maybe grab a snack and come back. So knowing that it does make sence that they want to pass a law stopping that. IMO.

I don't care, except, the OP was about making fun of the GOP because he errantly believes there are no cruise ships in Kansas. I happen to know the cruise ship industry is HUGE in Kansas (and all along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers), so the OP is a fail.

But, IMO, food stamps are supposed to be a last resort to keep poor people's children from starving. If they can afford to cruise on the Kansas casino-boats, they don't need my help to buy their food.

Some placement agency/s do have accounts with certain stores such as Walmart where foster parents can purchase clothing, etc for foster children to be reimbursed by the agency. The agency/s will not reimburse for purchases made elsewhere.

Maybe we need to tweak a few things. Ive also been for the idea of putting welfare recipients on a time based format. say after a year they have a period of 6 months to where they can not receive assistance, but there can be certain instances in which they can get them. Make these people get jobs would be the ultimate goal, and in the case they do have a job and it still isnt enough they can get back on some assistance to help them out, but only as long as they keep a job.

    Just a few ideas.

Gee. We know lots of people who live in Kansas that have been on cruise ships. There's this little thing you may not have heard of: 'transportation.' You might want to get out a little more.

The Mississippi river doesn't go through Kansas. Not even through Kansas city MO. Its on the eastern border of MO.

Your link is a travel agency in KCK that will book you a cruise, but not actually in Kansas. You have to go to the coast to get on the ship. You understand ships need water right? You know there's no ocean in Kansas right? Not even a small one. There are no navigable rivers in Kansas. Most of them dry up in the summer because they are so shallow. That global warming stuff you don't believe in ya know. The upshot? No cruise ships in Kansas. None. No ocean. No big rivers. Unless you have a land based cruise ship then there are none in Kansas.

It'd be awesome if there was a corresponding law passed limiting spending by elected officials to a short list of clearly non luxury items/services. Dinner with someone, on the gov dime? How about you eat beans and rice? Travel? Hope you like greyhound buses.

This thread reminds me of how my cat inspects whatever I have to eat.

I always thought it was because he wanted some, but now I realize he is just monitoring my behavior.

You're blaming density? Wow that's rich. We suppose 'density' is why you left off a whole slew of other things the mean evil Republicans don't want freeloaders spending other peoples' money on:

    • Body piercings
    • Massages
    • Spas
    • Tobacco
    • Nail salons
    • Lingerie
    • Arcades
    • Visits to psychics
    • Theme parks
    • Dog or horse racing facility
    • Parimutuel facility
    • Sexually oriented business
    • Any retail establishment which provides adult-oriented entertainment in which performers disrobe or perform in an unclothed state for entertainment
    • Any business or retail establishment where minors under age 18 are not permitted

'Density.' Yeah, that's the ticket! [edit: we blame George W. Bush...]

"We" cannot do anything. This is a government agency and they know how broken it is and it's up to the powers that be to fix it and they're not going to. I said it b/f, it's gone from a safety net to a hammock decades ago.......

And the bottom line here is ......children. As long as there are underage kids in the home, they will have financial assistance and FS.

So you are are supercoolbrutha about people using food stamp money and welfare while going on vacation? Let me guess...you are against it because Republicans are for it. And lets be honest, that is the only justification you need. Hey Ted Cruz wanted to ban an Iranian terrorist from entering the United States? Bet anything superbadbrutha wanted to give that terrorist a charter flight on Air Force One.

Heres my question...what are they taking vacation from?

Ok, so here's the wording from the bill. No TANF cash assistance shall be used in any retail liquor store, casino, gaming establishment, jewelry store, tattoo parlor, massage parlor, body piercing parlor, spa, nail salon, lingerie shop, tobacco paraphernalia store, vapor cigarette store, psychic or fortune telling business, bail bond company, video arcade, movie theater, swimming pool, cruise ship, theme park, dog or horse racing facility, pari-mutuel facility, or sexually oriented business or any retail establishment which provides adult-oriented entertainment in which performers disrobe or perform in an unclothed state for entertainment, or in any business or retail establishment where minors under age 18 are not permitted.

As we can see, the whole cruise ship thing is but a minor oddity amongst the list of prohibited expenditures. Yet it's the one thing that left wing trash journals latch onto and attempt to sensationalize in their headlines.

Now, from the TANF website, let's take a look at the stated purpose of TANF funds.

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program is designed to help needy families achieve self-sufficiency. States receive block grants to design and operate programs that accomplish one of the purposes of the TANF program.

The four purposes of the TANF program are to:

•Provide assistance to needy families so that children can be cared for in their own homes
•Reduce the dependency of needy parents by promoting job preparation, work and marriage
•Prevent and reduce the incidence of out-of-wedlock pregnancies
•Encourage the formation and maintenance of two-parent families

Now, instead of yapping obtusely about whether there are cruise ships in Kansas, would someone kindly explain how any of the prohibited expenditures listed above are conducive to the stated purpose of TANF funds?
