Out of one side of the conservative mouth, they expect the UN to act as if it were a military power. Out of the other, they claim that the UN is a secret tool of the mythical new world order. In reality, the UN has played a key role in preventing local conflicts, facilitating trade, spreading technology, particularly in the areas of agriculture and health care. You may not have noticed that there has not been a major war between major military powers on this planet since 1945, either, which is almost certainly the longest interval in world history.
