As immigrants to America, the Irish were treated poorly. Employment ads began to contain the phrase, "Irish need not apply." Boarding houses and other public establishment might display signs which read, " No dogs or Irish allowed." The Irish were blamed for outbreaks of disease. Anti-Irish and anti-Catholic riots broke out in New York and Boston. Churches, convents and orphanages were attacked and burned. Even black slaves were more highly regarded than the Irish

 

That's another good point. Rich black Africans, tribal chiefs, etc., also owned slaves. In fact, I believe I've read that a lot of tribal chiefs and rich black Africans would sell their slaves to Europeans for goods that they wanted. Slaves were like money back then.

 

Funny since Whites make up the majority of the U.S. population, that Obama got elected twice by a race of racist that hate Blacks.

 

He snowed blacks and whites the first time.....shame on him.

I would bet there is as much racism among Blacks as there is among Whites. To tell you the truth, I think racism has increased since Obama became President and I blame Obama and the media for most of it.

Who cares what that twit says. I never met anyone who wasn't happy about being white in the greatest country on earth. Anyone who hates being white or hates being in USA is self loathing and needs a good psychiatrist.

 

Everyone should have a right to be proud of their race and glad to be their race. I am damn glad I am white. Wouldn't want to be any other race and wouldn't want to have been born in any other country. For all intents and purposes, I am living the dream.

Doubt it. Police and civilians are generally never seeing eye to eye here. Black, white, Asian, the point is the people are NOT fans of the police at all. There's plenty of black people who are cops, but that didn't stop the riots from happening, that didn't stop people from trashing their cars or doing anything they wanted, all it did was widen the gap between the police and everyone else.

I don't recall saying the media ignores them at all, I never even used the word "ignore" in that past, I said they acknowledge other riots but make excuses for those people. Occupy Wall Street incidents, firing of Joe Paterno, even at a NATO summit in 2012 and no one goes out of their way to call them thugs or savages or anything for those incidents.

 

And he "magically" forget about one thing... using his logic, every man can say and prove that black people, or people of other races are racists too!
Professor should better invent reform for our educational system or do something more useful, not trying to prove existence of a non-existent thing.

Let's cut to the chase. Not making excuses for drunk college students going nuts after a ball game, but it's not a way of life for them. I guarantee that 5 years from now, the majority of those rowdy college students will be working and building their lives. Same 5 years from now, the thugs in Baltimore and other places will still be vandalizing, committing crimes, and whining and crying about how they have no opportunities, even though they do nothing to attempt to improve themselves and their ability to be marketable to employers.

 

Can't improve yourself if schools in the city are closing and the recreation centers that keep kids busy are also closing, so yeah their whining tends to be a justified. This also goes for the same rowdy college students (yeah, whatever) who may not be able to find jobs because there's no marker for them or they've been outsourced.

 

We will disagree on it. It might be interesting as fluff material, and as an elective class....but I don't see the actual value of having any kind of degree in such. On what resume would you put that, and expect it to help?

Maybe if Al Sharpton was hiring....

Nothing justifies burning buildings down and creating mayhem, under the guise of supposedly protesting racial injustice, when all the thugs are really doing is venting over the crappy lives THEY'VE created for themselves.

So schools and rec centers closing are the problem? Yawn, snore, zzzzz. Any minority student who applies himself or herself in high school and gets even remotely decent grades or decent ACT/SAT scores gets all sorts of freebies for college.....grants for being minority, grants for being poor, grants for coming from a single parent home, etc.

No.....despite your sarcasm about the rowdy college students.....most are working hard for a better life, not like the thugs who boo hoo about a lack of opportunities, so go out and look for reasons to act like animals and burn their neighborhoods down.

 

Given the recent revelations by Ben and considering its play in the media, I find it odd that someone would have some completely unrelated meaning come to mind.

But what was in that past? Slave ownership, which is constantly and consistently at the heart of every media reported black issue.

I would daresay the reasoning for that is I do not pay much attention to Ben Affleck. Whilst I appreciate some may like his acting or find what he says critically important to the point of caring about what he says or does, I do not.

 

You have completely missed the point. I don't care for Affleck's acting or his movies either, but tweet wasn't about Ben. His recent actions were simply used as some sort of clever implication.

Have I at any point indicated burning down buildings and wrecking police cars was a perfectly justifiable thing to do? Also, the crappy lives they've "created" is BS when you take into the account that money and funds that could've gone into improving all those run down neighborhoods and keeping rec centers open goes to other things, and I think I've already mentioned that in this thread.

And how exactly do you apply yourself in high school when your school gets closed down for one reason or another? Same with the rec centers, you know the ones that give kids something useful to do?

See above for my response to lack of opportunities, and I gotta point out that many of those thugs also try to make a better life, despite what they deal with. After all rioting in Baltimore is not a daily occurrence.
