yeah, assuming that the demand for public education wouldn't be affected by it being free. :/

Nobody forced you to go to a university. You can get degrees for much less.

Take the emphasis off a College Degree!!! Vocational training can be managed by the younger folks without having a HS Degree, much less a College Degree. Then get the Federal out of financing any person schooling. Then go vocational training, starting in the 11th grade of HS. OJT (on the job training), internships can easily replace the Post HS education.

Most all this HALF TRILLION DOLLAR cost is already coming from local tax payers and I'm sure employers (opposed to a Federal Government) would assist in any cost, not that they already do so....

So, I guess humanity before the great college gods appeared was riddled with crime? Would you like a laundery list of successful humans who do not have college degrees? Again, college is a luxury. If you want one for you or someone else, pay for it yourself.

No, but education sure was prevalent(and less expensive than it is now.) College isn't a luxury, the high tuition's are over-rated when compared to the market place. Say College is a luxury to those who have succeeded with 2 or four-year degrees. To those with 2+ cars, living in a good lifestyle.

Treated as any other comodity, it would still be affordable. Injecting government moral hazard has caused more harm than good. If you cannot teach people it is wrong to commit crimes between K-12 grade, perhaps bullets and ropes will fix the problem.

The only way to help students pay their loans - is to make all education in our country - free(of course except "luxury" universities) But it is very unprofitable for our government and private investors, that's why this issue will never be solved!

My solution to the student loan crisis? Only borrow the bare minimum needed to cover tuition and books and only as much as you have a reasonable chance to pay back. Also, work while going to school to pay your bills.

Or you could do like my ex-girlfriend and borrow tens of thousands a year to cover living expenses for the year and tuition at a private art college and then wonder three years later how you owe $90,000 and still don't have a degree while working in the service industry with no prospects of that ever changing.

To people complaining about $1000+ monthly payments: Who do you think should pay that money back? You borrowed the money. You spent the money. You should pay back the money.
