How is it that Barack Obama and his Birth certificate

Caused such an uproar from the GOP, because I remember almost nightly it being a topic with all the people and their signs that he's from Kenya on Fox News and just about every Republican on the Planet including Donald Trump and members on this board who were all in a twist about his birth certificate being fake and now here we have Republican Ted Cruz who's running for President, but was born in Calgary Canada doesn't even get a PEEP out of them. MORE HYPOCRISY

 

In my opinion, mostly because the Constitution had long been raped and perverted. There are constitutionalists who gave Cruz's presidency the A-Ok, because of his mother being a US Citizen. Same thing sort of with Rubio. All it confirms for me really is that my fears were unfounded on maybe not being qualified for POTUS because my father's unknown. So, yay

 

It was embarrassing that some GOP members focused on that. There were far better political issues to address, rather than cheap tabloid "news".
Cruz has a less credible claim because he doesn't have any birth certificate for the US, unlike Obama (depending on your point of view). His mother was a US citizen at birth claiming dual citizenship.

Being born in the US seems to be a moot point. You can run for president if you were born in the US, but essentially spent none of your life there? Have no experience growing up there?
Laws are not always straightforward.

But in any case... of course the GOP aint bringing up Cruz's issues (maybe see some gloves nearer the caucus votes).

 

In Article II of the Constitution, the president's qualifications and powers are detailed. In order to be considered for the office, a presidential candidate must be at least 35 years old, a natural-born U.S. citizen, and have at least 14 years of residence in the United States.

So yeah you have to live here for quite some time.

 

Hillary Clinton was the first "birther".

True. Not her finest moment. She was in shock when Barack Obama started mounting a serious challenge. She was desperate to stop his momentum. That wasn't going to do it.

 

Keep in mind that the birther thing started in Hillary's camp.

Probably the same reason you bring Cruz up as the Republicans brought up Obama. Partisanship.

 

It's because Cruz is a mostly white Republican. End of story. The right wing has been exposed for being they party cheer leading, slightly ethnocentric group they are.

 

That's because it WORKS with a massive segment of the Republican base (many of a racist mindset) to "OTHER" the Black candidate or politician of their choice. It's a function, an app... a political algorithm (in a manner of speaking) that is CALCULATED in its use.

And they will try employing that 'type' of thing, until they cannot wring anymore usefulness out of it. Unfortunately, there is still enough widespread, irrational animus directed toward minorities (or 'others' deemed 'different')... that we'll see it again, in one form or the other from the GOP.

 

What hypocrisy? It's been discussed... and as long as he provides a legit B.C. he's good with me.

But Cruz isn't actually running, it's only the primaries. I don't think there's anything preventing a non-birther from running in the primaries, is there? It's just that he can't take office if elected.... am I wrong?

 

They should all be required to submit a legit, full-fledged birth certificate before their name goes on any ballot.
It should be a crime to take votes from other candidates if you aren't even allowed to hold the office.

 

Hyperbole and gross overstatement, less than 1% of Republicans ever climbed on that band wagon.

 

It wasn't cheap "tabloid" news. It was a giant dog whistle to bigots. The hard core bigotry embodied in the birther movement was impossible to miss.

Right wing media, with its tabloid level world view just exploited.

 

This whole deal can be cleared up if Obama would release his REAL birth cert, explain why he has a Conn Social Security number, and release ALL of his college records.

 

There is nothing to clear up... You do know that your college records are also off limits ??
