You know, i just couldn't be prouder of Governor Haley and many other SC Republicans right now.

I made the prediction a couple of days ago that it will happen within a year and many laughed and said never.

Will now revise that to this coming JULY the 4th!

There IS hope my friends ---> YAY SMART REPUBLICANS!! :)

"Today we are here in a moment of unity to say it's time to move the flag from the capitol grounds," Haley said during a news conference attended by Republican senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, as well as other state leaders.

Now you can concentrate on the seven states that use parts of the Confederate flag in their state flags to commemorate the war to get them to change those as well.

This is nothing but a feel-goodism for some of the guilty white liberals who desperately want to gain acceptance by minorities by showing how 'unlike those other white people' they are, nothing more. Sad to see Republicans going along with such a shameless scheme.

We'll do that, thanks for the suggestion!

Something good MUST come out of horrible events.

Clearly, we're not gonna get universal BG checks due to the power & influence of the NRA on BOTH parties.

But this will be a big WIN.

Isn't it about time? I mean for (*)(*)(*)(*)s sake, why would this be flying on government property every *******n day?

It is the flag of a defunct nation. Never mind what it allegedly stands for, but it is patently ridiculous to recognize something that barely was.

Traitors, giving up the flag is giving up on the symbol of state rights.

I don't understand what you think you won.If we could get you guys to care about what's going on in Detroit, Chicago, etc. like you do about some damn flag, we'd be making some progress.

SEVEN STATES use the imagery in one way or another on their STATE flags to commemorate the war. What are you going to do about those? They fly OVER the capitol buildings in those states and not just on the lawn somewhere.

Yes, that sounds a bit more reasonable, using a bit of symbolism as opposed to using the flag of the Confederate states.

As a matter of historical curiousity
The stars and bars was not commonly flown after the civil war
    Big surprise?

It was added to various state flags in the 50s
As a response to brown vs board of education ruling against separate but "equal" schools
So when people say it is about states rights
They really are saying it is about states rights to have legalized racism

Man the winners sure do get to write the history books huh? This is/was not the confederate flag. It was the battle flag of Northern Virginia. I don't know why they fly it in South Carolina, but if Virginia wants to fly it (maybe they already do?) I'm fine with that.

So they are flying the "battle flag of Northern Virginia" in South Carolina? Sounds crazy.

Why do Southerners call it the Confederate flag then?

SC was flying ON capitol grounds and a few short years ago DID fly directly over the cap building.

All of this nonsense will be fixed on short order .. hide-n-watch! :)

As part of a compromise in 2000, lawmakers agreed to remove the Confederate flag from the top of the Capitol dome and place it across the street while also adding a monument to African-Americans.

But the legislation mandated that only a supermajority of the legislature could change that set-up going forward.

Privately, state lawmakers doubt Brannon's ability to attract enough Republicans to his side because he's not a member of the leadership.

Brannon said that he has talked to two dozen Republicans in the lower chamber and they reacted positively, with some offering to sign on as co-sponsors.

But he admitted that he hasn't thought much about how to piece together two-thirds of both houses to pass the bill.

Dude, that makes absolutely ZERO sense. South Carolina was THE primary hub of that dark chapter in US history and were the architects of the current version of the flag.

Patriotic Americans all have a flag they can be proud of.

With Haley, Romney, ! (the politician formerly known as "Bush") and others now calling for removal of the offensive burgee from public property, progress is ineluctable.

Thanks for the additional history. I'm sticking with my 2/3 majority by special session if necessary and prior to 7-4-15.

Why should blacks in South Carolina have their tax money go to a state government that is upholding a flag that was created to "prove" the superiority of the white race over all others ?
