You're just using anecdotes, that means nothing when talking about race in society. Have you had to deal with housing discrimination? Being denied a loan because you're black? We confined them into ghettos, denied them well paying jobs and good schools for a very long time. If your grandfather was unable to get a good paying job or a loan to buy a house because of their race, and his grandfather was a slave, do you think you'd be on equal footing with someone who had the stability of a decent job and a decent neighborhood? Now extrapolate the issue and you begin to see what we're talking about. It isn't white guilt, it's reality. I don't feel guilty, but I acknowledge our history and the effect it still has.

 

Do you know the difference between the past, the present and the future?

Fine if you want to declare the path to success is drop out of high school and don't get an education, have kids out of wedlock, abuse drugs and alcohol, get married when you are 17, and be a lousy employee, and engage in criminal activity so be it.

Might want to look up this thing called "percentages". Black people are disproportionately poorer than whites as a percentage of the population. No one is saying all white people are well off. I should know being from a dirt-poor, white family myself.

 

dunno, this thread is about whiteness though and how people feel about their whiteness not about how you feel about blacks and puerto ricans.

You can't discuss black's place in society without calculating how much of it is due to cultural indoctrination (self caused) and inherent racism (societally caused). And many people won't admit to the former and blame it all on the latter.

An honest discussion is impossible.
