I still say government shouldn't even be in the marriage business one way or another.

We also need to get them out of our bank accounts..

You have to consider the fact, that in 1886 people would never think that definition of marriage might imply something else. This is why I said that whoever wrote it might be "turning in their graves" hearing that.

We all leave in this country and the same law applies to all. You can't say that "private" give others to dictate their own laws.
Regarding the gay hire I can easily say that we have a freedom of self expression or freedom of religion and forcing me to hire gays violates these freedoms.
You can twist things with Constitution as much as you can. You even see how government violates Constitution by tapping to all citizens without warrant.

If you did want to adopt definition of marriage, I would go with logic, which would make people happy by means of democracy.

    1) I would do nation-wide referendum about "gay marriage" and wouldn't let assigned 9 individuals to decided it for all.
    2) Before doing the referendum. Since for last 25 year or something we've heard nothing but gay propaganda, I would let to run only anti-gay propaganda for a few years. After that I would either forbid both or allow both on equal bases - time, channels, etc, making all this brainwashing equal. Money should be either completely removed for this or limited to equal amounts, how much you can spend. Do you see, that I am trying to apply principles of equality about making this decision?
    3) No matter who wins, I would allow these people to do what they want. Let's say 40% don't agree with gay marriage, so be it. Give them places as state or counties, where it would be illegal. Select it by regions, where people where predominately against it. Allow "gay marriage" in the regions where people where predominately for it.

As you see, all these suggestions are made on a fair bases, bases of equality and respect to both sides.

Well, you can say that 54% are for gay marriage and 39% against it, but consider the fact that for last 25 yeas or something it was shown predominately gay propaganda and people with anti gay views were harassed, sued, ashamed as "haters", fascists, etc. I personally never heard anti-gay propaganda on a TV. Never. Only gay propaganda.

And it's most likely even wrong numbers or people might be just ashamed to say "no" due to imposed stigma by mass media. It goes against crimes committed against gays:

Note, in 2010-present it's committed almost as much as from 2000-2009! Not even looking at the times where was no gay propaganda or very little. The more gay propaganda-the more crimes, it's clear.

Ok, I would like to stop positing here. I expressed my opinion enough, I stay there and I just feel like it's going to be never ending.
Whoever read it will make their own decision.

Now let's say you and your spouse decide to split up, and you get into screaming arguments about who owns which property, who gets custody of the children, etc. You can't take this to court, because that would insert government into marriage. You can't get a pair of dueling pistols and see who survives, because THAT would get government involved. You can't use contested ownership documents, because THAT would get government involved. You can't saw the kid in half, because THAT would get government involved.

Looks like your idea doesn't survive any encounter with reality.

It's already ended, and your opinion is irrelevant.
