Good article that encapsulates the danger to the Grumpy Old People if they ignore Trump and hope he goes away. For the purposes of thread creation I will say that I agree with the author's view that the whole Be Afraid! thingy can't work forever and is counter productive (i.e.all that growth from immigrants and Those People).

    It raises many good points.

Another rich man (inherited money, too) who uses the language of Archie Bunker to tell middle class whites to fear mexicans and blacks and ignore what Wall Street is doing.

And the rubes eat it up.

This is the same card that every fake GOP presidential candidate has played since Sarah Palin's disasterous vice presidential campaign, which formed the template for Trump's antics.

I laugh at Trump a bit, but mostly, I dispair for an electorate that is so shallow and so easily manipulated that people like him even get on the national stage in the first place.

Trump isn't serious. He's promoting himself.

I would love for Trump to stay the course. I salivate at the thought of a Trump/Shrillery debate. I used to say that about Jeb, but I've given up on Jeb and thrown all my support to Trump.

Trump is probably too divisive in his views/rhetoric, to have enough national appeal to actually win the election.

The great thing about The Donald is that he tends to speak for a lot of Americans who otherwise have no voice in the political establishment.

I think, as many commentators have said, the GOP is fearful that Trump can form a third party [like Ross Perot in 1992] and split the party. He seems to have the following from those who are tired of politically correct candidates. No one is laughing him off.

Good for them, they should enjoy it while it lasts his big mouth will be his own undoing. So far he has alienated almost anyone of color and nearly every Vet in the land and everyone that knows his history is not so great as some believe, the more he talks the sooner his run comes to a crashing halt.

He doesn't need to do that. He has already cleaved the GOP into bits.

I don't think so either. The man is a con artist.

But he seems to be in bed with Roger Ailes, who is promoting this fad in order to insure a big audience for the Fox News debate.

If Trump manages not to make a fool of himself on that stage, he'll still be front runner, and he'll be in a position to anoint one of the real candidates before he does his flameout.

That could be Cruz, who has met with The Donald and is jsut about the only GOP politician who hasn't criticized Trump.

Either way, the GOP is headed right toward 1964 or possibily even 1936.

Of course, in the off chance that one of these circus clowns gets elected, the US is headed toward the dumpster.

This suggests that "people of color" and veterans all think alike and are incredibly superficial.

I did not suggest any such thing, I do suggest that the vast majority of them see that Trump is nothing more than a carnival barker that will say anything to garner attention, the more he speaks the sooner is "run" will come to an end. The bigger problem is what damage he may be doing to the chances of the GOP next year.

I'm not sure if divisive is the right word, but whatever it is, if it's too much, that says way more about the disgusting state of America than it says about Trump.

I for one am tired of this dynamic of candidates needing to walk on eggshells and avoid offending anyone, anywhere if they hope to get into office. I'm tired of lying scuzzbags who know how to say the "right" thing, but never actually do the right thing.

It has no problem offending people, count on plenty more from him while he lasts. Trumpy would not have a clue what the right thing is no less be able to implement any.

If only voting were restricted to "responsible" Americans! As it is, any moron who can be swayed by any stupid campaign promise, party package, skin tone or gender can go cast a vote.

Was it responsible for people to go vote for the Big 0 based on his skin color?

He'd be an absolute riot in the Oval Office, no doubts there. He does seem to have the public interest at heart, though, unlike the parade of clowns we've had of late. Hilarity is more of the same.

Except that we do not need someone like him running the show, how many times he filed for Bankruptcy? He foreign policy experience is what? What experience does he have other than his less than stellar business background, shooting off ones Big Mouth is not a qualification for being President. True, so dump the Nut Jobs from the race and present the voters with a good alternative to Hillary, running Trump would assure Hillary becomes the next President, playing games will cost the GOP the election, is it worth it?

    - - - Updated - - -

Unless the alternative is Trumpy. So come up with someone worth backing.

I don't plan to vote for Hilary, but she's way beyond Trump in terms of elect-ability.
