I can get you a link that shows they are all about the same. I fail to see how this information disagrees with anything I have posted about making a living wage. So, how long have you been a manager at WalMart? Don't spend your $22,000 a year all in one place!

Yeah so back to my original point, the 'sweatshops' are a huge upgrade over the conditions that these people would be living in if it wasn't for the manufacturing industry.

Hey guess what, the people there voluntarily go to the sweatshops because even that was an upgrade from living in a grass hut out in the jungle.

You'd rather China and other countries with a manufacturing industry be reduced to primitive 3rd world hellholes because of your irrational hatred of corporations.

Except, which I have pointed out, they CANT make a living from them. The cost of living in China is almost as much as the US, but their wages are much much lower in sweatshops. It's like living in new york, today, on a wage from 1950.

But to continue the business we should have the so called employer
    and employee working on it.

Why do people choose to work there then?

Apparently it's an upgrade over living out in the sticks and dealing with famine like in North Korea.

My point was that while that's true, it's impractical because the business model doesn't work, unless you feel like forcing low-skilled workers into unemployment. It's not that higher wages wouldn't help them, it's that their work isn't worth such a price. Price above the equilibrium and demand outpaces supply.

Yeah, what I'm saying is that you're welcome to test out whatever you want so long as you let me do the same. We're perfectly capable of coexisting.

So why is the "cost of living" higher today? Gee, can we say "Inflation" which is caused by the Federal Reserve expanding the US money supply with unbacked currency? The same people that cite the increased cost of living are also those that oppose the Gold Standard that prevents arbitrary inflation caused by fiat currency.

    Pick a side.

Either be for the Gold Standard which maintains the standard of living or be for Fiat Currency that lowers the standard of living. That's the only two choices there are.

Stop working for people that you feel screwed over by. That's your problem. Not theirs. Interestingly, people who know more about the subject than you do suggest that even having a minimum wage law at all actually hurts people more than it helps them.

Stop aiming for mediocrity and you won't expect $20 an hour for flipping burgers.

Not all jobs relate to providing the primary income for the household and the belief that they do is a false belief.

A high school student working at McDonalds does not require a "living wage" from McDonalds.

A wife who's husband is supporting the family does not require a "living wage" as her income is supplemental income.

The "minimum wage" is not, nor has it ever been, based upon providing a "living wage" because not all jobs relate to providing for necessary expenditures of a household.

You could hire a bunch of inexperienced teenagers, college students, or part-timers who don't expect to live on what they earn, and they in turn need managers, human resource people, or others who in some way further the work they produce.

In this way, jobs beget jobs, and the inexperienced get the experience they need to justify a rise up into better paying work.

I don't believe you can stereotype all the people in China as living in high cost of living areas? Maybe 5% live in high cost of living areas while the other 95% do not. Anyway...the point was when the US was industrializing, people earned nothing compared to today and many working conditions were unsafe and sweatshops. Today you judge what others earn around the world compared to what Americans earn today. My point is easily proved by just waiting 20-30 years and China and others cost of living will increase just as it did in the USA during the past 100 years...

I already know all of them are the same because they are the effects of supply and demand.

Don't talk about Wal-Mart as if they are different than any other millions of businesses around the USA.

What do you believe is the solution for your 'living wage' issue?

That is simple. Actually, it was an idea Richard Nixon came up with. Pay everyone $50,000 a year and freeze prices. Then let government tailor income based upon family needs. Only problem Nixon laughingly stated was under this program, who would you get to clean public toilets? Back to the drawing boards for tricky Dick. Sounds like half an idea to me. After all money is only a medium of exchange and has no value other than that.

Not to comment on whether or not paying minimum wage is good or not, use of the terms "Un-American" and "treason" is absolutely ridiculous.

It's amazing that people in this country can watch someone start a business and make it successful, and then demand that the business they started and made successful pay their employees X amount of dollars.

I mean, if you want to pay people $80 an hour, start a business and pay people $80 an hour. You'll get the best janitors and secretaries. Surely with the best you'll be able to be successful too.

All these people are willing to tell others how to run their business while they work for someone who started their own business.

How does anybody who hasn't obtained a skill worth $14/hr. sleep at night if they have the nerve to ask for $14/hr.? You don't just get money because you feel you deserve money. Your labor has a value -- some labor is more valuable based on the return to which it translates to the employer. Want to earn more money? Go out and get a skill or a talent that is worth more money, /thread

Everyone does have a choice -- you can choose to obtain a valuable skill to increase the value of your labor, or you can choose to do nothing and hope somebody will pay you more than your labor is worth.

I suggest you lookup the definition of treason. What they do might be unethical but it is certainly not treason.

You have read where workers making the new wage are asking their employers to. Cut their hours so that they are still eligible for welfare? What does that say?

"Might be unethical"? Since when does two entities agreeing on a legal exchange constitue an unethical exchange?
