And the writers never had to get crass and filthy. Of course, if it were produced today, the professor would have to be black and there couldn't be headhunters on the island so as not to offend natives.
I can tolerate Gilligan's Island, I don't think it was the funniest show ever. I do think it is much better than the garbage today. I prefer Green Acres, Get Smart, and even the dreaded My Mother The Car more than GI.
Yes, it was clean entertainment. Didn't watch it often, but it was ok. I think "Cheers" was hilarious and "Barney Miller". I heard my teenagers laughing one eve and started watching "Happy Days" w/them.....funny. Hollywood produced good entertainment back then, but no more......no more genuinely funny sitcoms - now it's just stupid, gross garbage.
Today's writers are untalented liberals who go for the cheap, unfunny sex jokes and cater to the lowest common denominator of society. Barney Miller was a good one. Compared to the past decade or so, the 60-70s were the best, with some of the 80s too.
How right you are! But that also includes the directors/producers of these sitcoms. They just throw together some stupid dialogue w/hints of smuttiness, etc, and to them that's 'comedy'......they can have it. Another sitcom I enjoyed was "Mash"...funny stuff, but really enjoyed "Cheers"...... True comedy is another thing of the past, thanks to the liberals.
