I've been pondering my love/hate relationship with music and something occurred to me. What if all the best songs have already been written? My theory is that acoustic resonance and the international popularity of some songs proves that there are unlearned elements to music that are not based upon your culture etc. If this is true then all of the best songs may have already been written, at least partly. I've found that a lot of the songs I really like the most are old songs and that new songs I like tend to be modifications of older songs. If you listen to a wide variety of music and learn to recognize notes you might agree with me that there's a lot of distortion and other effects going around today but not a whole lot of actual new, good music. Just consider for example that you can take old sonatas and distort them through an electric guitar and they will sound good, but you un-distort modern electric guitar music and it often sounds bad.
I hope not. Maybe a few artists will take their time and compose some good ones that do not meet the tone deaf generations approval.
Doubtful. Year after year, decade after decade, and century after century, classic new songs keep being released.
