We all like to debate whether we're heading towards socialism, or right-wing fascism and so on. It's not a real debate; we are heading towards socialism, whereby the government plays a bigger and bigger role. For the brain-dead Bernie Sanders advocates (no exceptions, all are brain dead), they probably applaud this. They look at the clear trend up in the government spending graph and cheer. After all, to the brain-dead, who don't understand how the world functions in terms of tradeoffs, the "free stuff" is very alluring.

But to those of us who actually look at things empirically, and aren't brain-dead, the outlook is more dire. We can see that as government spending grows, the private sector in proportion decreases. By default. And the private sector is what made the US the most prosperous nation in the world. We look at this, listen to the cries from the brain-dead Sanders supporters accusing us of "holding progress back", and shake our heads. Is this progress? You take something that has worked wonderfully, and then reverse it?

This is why conservatives (in the US) ARE right, economically. Most conservatives are not entirely conscious of why capitalism works best, but they do know that it HAS worked. The socialist countries are in decline, and capitalism is on the rise (see my discussion on China, and Europe vs. the US). Let's not fight the tide, okay?

Edit: Oh yeah if you start bringing up the word "compromise", remember that "compromise" is what caused this government spending nightmare.

well so far your counter to his chart has just been a few smiley faces and from the sound of it, snorting on your end of the computer... you haven't actually said anything to counter his point...

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the whole point...

rather than... "haha heehee your chart is stupid and I reject it as wrong but won't say why or offer and valid counter point to what you said"...

I think his chart clearly shows as a percentange of GDP we've gone from under 10% of it controlled by the government to 40% controlled by the government... its a very direct and clear way to demonstrate the government controls 4x as much as it used to... hence socialism is on the rise in america, would actually be quite the accurate statement if we assume socialism is the control of the peoples money, rather then the people having control of the money... and his statement about capitalism on the rise on foreign countries that are succeeding in growth of their GDP can quite clearly be demonstrated with data, as well as the failings of soclialist countries such as say greece for a big flashing example?

I guess... I'm just waiting to see how you're going to blow up his points made... cause now I'm really curious how you will actually address those?

You don't even know if that Chart he posted is real or anything. When he states Conservatives are correct on the Economy, I'm assuming he means Republicans and they are just as guilty or more so than Democrats for increasing the National Debt in America. Here's a website that has some charts for you to analyze, you can believe them or not just as easily as I can look at that crummy little chart in this thread and think it's a bunch of GOP Hogwash.

Actually yes, they would (and they do). I know you like to think both sides are equally guilty, because a. that's convenient and b. it makes you feel smart to recognize the "two party scam", but let's look at the facts over the long term:

    1. In the early part of the 20th century, conservatives rallied against the income tax.

    2. In the early-mid part of the 20th century, conservatives rallied against FDR's "New Deal" policies

    3. In the 70s, conservatives rallied against the welfare programs spearheaded by former president Johnson.

    4. Currently, conservatives are rallying against continued welfare entitlements (Tea Party anyone?) and higher taxes (which lead to more government).

So I know it makes you feel good to recognize the "Two Party Scam", but things are more complicated than just saying "everybody equally guilty adurrrrr"...one party is *much* more guilty than another. Note also that the point isn't to repeal the income tax, or social security etc. The point of the above 4 bullets is to show you that your assumptions are wrong, and that you belong in the brain-dead Bernie Sanders camp.

Denying economic realities is bad, mmkay?

So doing the usual tally of responses:

    1. One guy who just puts a ROFL picture up and thinks thats an argument, also vehemently denies a chart that's commonplace throughout business websites....

    2. One guy who thinks the "Two Party Scam" is a real thing, when it's just a convenient tool to avoid placing blame on either side.

    3. Any other takers? So far all we've seen is brain-dead Bernie Sanders supporters and/or two-party scam supporters (which are roughly equivalent).

The last Republican President more than doubled the size of the government and spent like a drunken sailor (no offense meant Swabies). Do not try claiming Repubs spend less, they simply spend differently.

Ahhh, we have a critic among us, two bad he gets it wrong so often. I personally do not support Sanders or either Party, so they are either not nearly as bright as they believe they are or they are dishonest, my guess it is a little of Both.

I never stated you are a Sanders advocate, I never though you were a Sanders advocate. I stated very clearly you're a typical "Two Party Scam" type...

This is a textbook example of false rhetoric. Yes, conservatives of today spend more than conservatives of 20 years ago, or 40 years ago, or...But they still advocate spending far less than Democrats.

The only possible "different" spending that would increase net spending is the military (which conservatives generally support more funding for). Yet, the military accounts for only about 5% of the national budget, a smidgeon of government spending. So your argument sucks; increases in military spending do not outweight the welfare system liberals advocate. I challenge you to argue with that statement.

The GOP is owned by the later, maybe you should start your own and see how it goes over with the voters.

actually we do know his chart is accurate... how many sources do you want to check it against... a federal source? a news agency source? of sources used by foreign nations who check our stats on a regular basis because they have vested interest in doing so...

but to simply reject his source as invalid because you don't like it, and it doesn't support your opinions, thats just a ridiculous notion... if you have other data that counters or defeats his argument or chart... thats where YOU are supposed to provide something to back up your opinion... not just call someone stupid and run away giggling... save that for the playground, if you want a real serious discussion on these topics, then please participate, thats why we all came here... if you're used to other politics websites that just point fingers and call each other names, please go back to them, we came here for a reason, to have deep meaningful exchanges that may not result in a "victory" but will at least result in an exchange of valid data and opinions that can be substantiated and furthered in either direction... and while I acknowledge most people will refuse to change their mind on things... I have seen many people here change their thoughts, not to support something, but its caused them to think deeper about their own stance and adjust it to fit whats really happening... you know, we're enlightening each other... sometimes... but please... save the mocking and name calling for those other website, please don't bring it here...

P.S. did you even look at your own source you cited... all it does is confirm his statement... that we're becoming a socialist nation as the government controls more of the GDP than the people control of it... your link seems to want to suggest its the fault of bush and reagan... if only they had balanced budgets look where we would be today... but it still demonstrates his point the government controls more and more... so you just validated his statements...

Both Democrats and establishment Republicans are to blame.

Under Bush, the size of the debt doubled and the government grew tremendously in size. Under Obama it's tripled and government has grown even further. The only way the US will get this under control is to vote an actual fiscal conservative who believes in balancing the budget, quitting spending money the country doesn't have and believes in smaller/limited government. Unfortunately there is few and far between these days.

Yes, there is a difference. Conservatives are trying to cut government spending by voting for people who promise to cut government spending and get the government out of their hair, while the socialist progressives are voting for people who promise more taxes (on other people) and more government to take care of them.

What happens in the beltway often goes against what people vote for. For example, Boehner has got to have the dumbest mouth breathing electorate in the country because he won his last election on getting rid of obamacare, and then went back to congress to help obama fund obamacare. Then when he resigns, he talks of protecting "the institution" (whatever that means). He didn't run on protecting the institution. He ran on getting rid of obamacare.

Hopefully those idiots in Ohio get the internet sometime in the next few years so they can find out what kind of idiot they sent there last time.

Realistically, I don't think we're ever going to have a balanced budget. But, I hate to say the word "compromise", but we can have a much smaller rate of growth in the deficit. Balanced budget? Not realistic (literally)...but we could reduce spending with the right people in office.

They are crazy stupid corrupt radicals and do not know how or intend to govern.

The new GOP Speaker of The House to be just admitted that the BENGHAZI investigations were solely political. Care to guess how much taxpayer dollars were wasted on this (*)(*)(*)(*)?

Depends, lots of progressives in the R party so it is really a progressive problem.

    - - - Updated - - -

Ah, the left wing spin on a comment. Incompetence is less a problem for progressives than control of the electorate through government force.

I don't think it is and his replacement is no more conservative than Boehner was.
