And every one since has wanted to control the trade. Right now production is up %85. Look who was paid to shut it down. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/31/blackwater-gets-rich-afghanistan-drug-production
What did Northrup-Grumin do besides take $325 million for nothing? Could it be ship the product in their planes? And Blackwater what did they do? Guard the crops and product till it shipped? Heroin use in the USA is a record high. Gee who brought that heroin
Here the traffickers admit they will never stop. And the statement of world powers appear unwilling to stop the trade. http://america.aljazeera.com/articl...an-struggles-to-fight-daunting-opium-war.html
Or how about this where the DEA says they are fighting the CIA in trying to stop the heroin flow.

I think I got a handle on who is in Afghan and why.

Just because your country is invaded by the Soviets does not mean you have to turn into religious extremists and kill innocent people. Afghanis are responsible for that. My country was invaded by the Soviets too, and yet somehow we still managed to not become a fundamentalist failed state, lol. Sure, there is some responsibility on Soviet and US forces, too, but in the end, it is Afghan country, and they are the primary reason it looks like it does today.

Afghanistan has been in freefall since the monarchy was overthrown in the mid 1970s.

Literacy has taken a giant step backwards.

Between the Soviets, the warlords, the Taliban and AQ the country is a shambles.

Then of course ENRON wanted a pipeline across Afghanistan to India so Bush launched yet another war.

I think Afghanistan's best hope is to leave them to the Chinese who are having considerable success in building railroads, power plants and mining operations in the northwest of the country. In fact, many small businesses have spun off for the Afghanis and than means jobs..

    They are hardly "barbarians".

You can read about the British Opium wars against China.. Most of the crop seems to have come from Afghanistan.

Ahhhhh, but you KNOW there were reasons to invade those countries. You're just fearful of saying what they were, for fear of implicating your party as part of the problems.

Glad you went back to 1978... It goes back way more than that tho.. However for sake of debate I'm satisfied.

Fascists belong in Hell - that is my opinion. If we personally need to go murder threats to freedom then so be it.

If you want my opinion we have plenty of terrorists here too,,,, One doesn't need a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing gun they just need a pen and a bunch of useful idiots.

Congratulations, you are the first person here who has used FACTS to back up a claim. That is so very rare here, it deserves a mention.

Well yeah, I guess - in the same way that a child who is molested who grows up and does the same is responsible for their actions. But at the same time, the original abuser certainly shares a lot of responsibility.

I suppose the same must apply. Western intervention molested the local populace, who in turn have molested their countrymen.

One would have thought the 'smart' West would have got the message by now, especially with Russia's humiliating defeat being in such recent memory. But no; yet another case of 'lessons not being learnt'! [IMG]

And yet we keep on going back for even more humiliation by what westerners are pleased to think of as 'uncivilized savages': how bloody stupid is that? Indeed, the stupidity is exceeded only by delusional arrogance. Will we never learn to keep out of the accursed region!!

They did? Then who was fighting the ANZAC troops at Gallipoli? Who was Lawrence and Allenby fighting in Arabia etc, etc.

Please tell me you got a date wrong. I really don't want to reread that whole area's history again.

Besides, hadn't the "Caliphate" been toppled by the Young Turks in 1908, or is some development of that what you're referring to?

As to who's responsible there isn't that a little like asking who's responsible for the world being like it is? Afghanistan is unique among nations/countries in that it's people don't really have much of a culture or history except insofar as they have, quite firmly and successfully, told the rest of the world to leave them ALONE over several millennia, yes?

I'm perfectly aware of the reason-US hegemony. If you believe it's anything else be my guest-and don't even think of saying anything about the 'Great Communist Conspiracy', WMD or any affiliated nonsense. What do you mean by my "party"? The only party I have in mind is one to celebrate my next birthday.

"We," I didn't know you were a Soviet, it puts the 1980 Summer Olympics games in perspective. When Gorby said, "that is far enough," it was Soviet tanks falling like dominoes in Iraq, and in Vietnam, well, Commies again...
