    So for all of their fear-mongering, chest beating and grandstanding, in truth they are liars, frauds and panderers. Such a simple and yet critically effective tool for combatting terrorism, but these poor excuses for representatives refuse to do the work and walk the walk.

    They're also soft on crime as well refusing to vote on desperately needed judges.

    It's like they want this country to fall or something.

    There is no reason to keep stalling Adam Szubin's confirmation other than a Republican clique that has a vendetta against President Obama.

    The right-wingers should soon start posting responses to the OP to defend the Congressional Republicans' actions. Failing to do this, they will be admitting the Congressional Republicans have been doing nothing since January 20, 2009 except obstructing the President to make the country fail.

    Why do we need this position when we already have the office of terrorism under the control of the u.s. treasury department?
    We have too many offices doing the same thing and overlapping. Its titled terrorism and illicit finance.

    I have shoes in my closet older than this clown. He hasn't lived long enough to know how to protect himself from athlete's foot let alone protect me from terrorists.

    With an issue as important as terrorism, isn't it shortsighted to expect an agency with so many duties already to take on terrorism as well?

    The Treasury Department currently oversees:

    -Managing Federal finances;
    -Collecting taxes, duties and monies paid to and due to the U.S. and paying all bills of the U.S.;
    -Currency and coinage;
    -Managing Government accounts and the public debt;
    -Supervising national banks and thrift institutions;
    -Advising on domestic and international financial, monetary, economic, trade and tax policy;
    -Enforcing Federal finance and tax laws;
    -Investigating and prosecuting tax evaders, counterfeiters, and forgers.

    Adding the many aspects of preventing attacks from domestic and foreign terrorist organizations is an undue burden for Treasury personnel already needed for the many duties listed above.

    Keeping the U.S. and its over 300 million citizens safe from terrorism should be handled by an agency singly devoted to this very, very important task. Especially given the GOP's opposition to tax law enforcement when it affects the super-rich. This opposition motivates the Congressional Republicans to cut the budget of the Treasury Department which limits the number of agents that department can keep on staff.

    Do conservatives and neoconservatives who are so interested in keeping America safe really want the government to skimp in this area?

    No, and that's why no Democrat should ever be appointed.

    Well, tell that to the Congressional Republicans when ISIS blasts away at Americans here at home. Even if one of your precious war hawks does get elected to the White House it will be the GOP to blame for dragging their feet on such an important issue. Of course, right-wingers will blame Obama, but everyone will know which party is truly at fault. Does the term G"NO"P ring any bells?

    Oh please. Szubin is the acting undersecretary for terrorism and financial crimes. He was elevated to that status when his predecessor was promoted. You act as if no one is doing the job. Szubin is. Might I ask why Obama hasn't cared about cutting off the finances of ISIS before? Read up on how Obama hasn't nominated people for other important jobs that need to be done. You really should not go to the liberal websites because they give a VERY slanted view of things. Try multiple sources before you hone in on HuffPo as if that is the word of God.
