Have we even found a final definition for what the made up phrase "assault weapon" even means? Last I checked an Assault weapon could be the standard pistol which is semi-automatic.

The irony is that D.C. just passed recently an open gun law as well.

assault weapon means a firearm designed for killing lots of people in a short period of time without interference by law enforcement.

I can tolerate prohibitionist states making full-auto or semi-auto rifles prohibited, so long they can tolerate liberal states making full-auto or semi-auto rifles permissive.

Which is not permitted by Federal policy at the moment.

So it's safe to say you don't have an open mind on this issue.

"The definition varies among regulating jurisdictions, but usually includes semi-automatic firearms with a detachable magazine and a pistol grip, and sometimes other features such as a flash suppressor or barrel shroud."

Looks like many still have not decided on the final definition of this made up term.

You want people to be open minded about losing their rights?

My life is awesome, my concern are those that are not as blessed as me. Obama or Bush have nothing to do with the stock market. Our lying inept corrupt government has everything to do with picking the winners and the losers, and that goes for both sides

Plano is not gun-nut central. I do know what I'm talking about as I've lived here for over 20 years. It's a rich suburb(of Dallas, TX) with lots of money and well known companies make their home offices here. While many people may have guns here, you'd be hard pressed to find them. We don't really have people out and about displaying them, etc.

Unless you went into these people's homes and saw it, you would most likely not know.

Instead of gun-nut (I was using a term liberals understand better), let's say "a high per capita gun ownership rate"?

And that's really the point. Just because people have a lot of guns, doesn't mean they're out committing murder with them.

You could give me a jet loaded up with napalm, that doesn't mean I'm going to go around burning down towns.

Ask the residents of San Bernardino how well the assault rifle ban worked for them.

Then focus your attention on the much bigger problem, and on something you might be able to impact. You are not going to be able to implement a gun ban, or a gun registry. You probably cannot even get stronger background checks.

    Let me break it down.

Your argument is owning guns is legal and my right, but because of the law breaking of others my right must be restricted or even eliminated. For the children.

The metaphor i used was of right to travel freely at night as a female vs the law breaking of others. Drawing a parallel of the rights of the individual being curtailed for the law breaking of others and how it makes no *******ned sense

My position is that there should be federal laws on the issue of assault rifles and I'd like that position to be that they are illegal if owned by individuals without a serious background check and permit renewable every five years or so.

So, Bush (and his Congress) picked losers on economic issues like other Republican presidents, and Obama (and his Congress) has picked winners, just like other Dem presidents. See any patterns there?
