Maybe they wanted to end the threat before the threat had a chance to go after innocents like the women and children who were in the gas station that the man was crawling towards. What if he decided he wanted to try and take out a few before he met his demise? Cops don't only protect themselves, they also protect others i.e active shooter situations.

Is there really an issue with this situation?

 

I'm beginning to wonder if "Murder by cops" is the new "Suicide by cop's" motto for deranged people wanting to die??? That 5 Million Dollars paid in Chicago to a victim, has set a precedent....

WTF you on about. It's rather clear that them cops stood wide open in the street.
Cops take cover behind their cars etc when there is a threat.

So since they did not,... not at all.... -> no threat.

My experience has been that when I'm brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner in public, and I've already fired shots into the air in an urban setting, and multiple armed police yell at me to throw down the weapon, that it's in my best interest to throw down the weapon! I guess this perp hadn't learned that yet. He knows now! (He won't be able to use said information, but that's not the brave officer's fault.) Brave? Yes, putting your life on the line every day against people who want to shoot you is very brave. Chaos would ensue if the cops ever stand down.

Please tell me that a bullet is not lethal just because it's fired from the prone ("crawling") position.....uh, you can't. I know, I'll crawl on the ground, and shoot you from down there, and see if you agree with me.

Lesson to be learned: obey the po-lice or bad things gunna happen to ya. No pity for the perp.....none. You fire shots in public, and brandish a lethal weapon, and disobey the po-lice, you deserve to go down. He could have killed an innocent baby in a nearby house through a window with a wild-ass shot of his (did he kill any with the shots he already fired off!?) Nobody seems to care about that! No prolonged negotiation, no sympathy. He made his bed, and now he'll sleep in it.

Here's the modus operendi the cops need to follow:
Cops: "Drop your weapon!"
Perp: "Screw you!"
Cops: pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop (well you get the idea, 31 pops.)

Well the GOOD news is that his family will get about 10 trillion dollars after they sue the po-lice (they'll just raise our taxes to pay for that, so no problem for the gov't.)

Glad to see that despite the perp brandishing a weapon and refusing the officer's commands, that their families will get their cop fathers home safe tonight.

 

Or they care about public safety so much that they didn't want to WAIT the 15 seconds it would have taken to cower for cover, while the perp fired off more shots (killing innocent by standers - like the person shooting the video or the gas station patrons), or shot the cops themselves as they scurried for cover. They are braver than you or I. I hope they get an award for potentially preventing a mass-killing.

In what universe is that true?

Two Marines were recently decorated with the Navy Cross for their refusal to take cover as a suicide bomber drove a truck toward their checkpoint.

They stopped the truck a few yards short of their position, where the 2000lbs of high explosive exploded, killing them instantly and leveling concrete buildings for hundreds yards from the point of the explosion.

They leaned into what was a clear and present threat to themselves and 50 of their fellow Marines sleeping in their makeshift barracks just outside the kill zone, centered upon the spot those two Marines stopped that truck, saving the lives of those Marines.

Like those two Marines, Cops aren't paid to take cover when a threat presents on the street, firing a their weapon. Cops are paid to shut that threat down.

 

I'm not really even sure what to say to you. Your comments are so far from reality I don't think there is any hope for you. All I can tell you is one thing, I have felt my life or the lives of others were in imminent danger on many (unfortunate) occasions and I can't think of one situation where my first thought was where can I take cover. Now I am not saying that when the situation allowed it we didn't strategically try and position ourselves, but most of the time it is spit second scenario's and we are not allowed that convenience.
