Hmm..., I seem to get a vein of hatred in that remark. Remember never speak ill of the dead. Within the last twenty-four hours I have been accused by Leftists of being full of hate. Methinks the shoe is on the other foot. Tsk, tsk, tsk....

Certainly Ted Cruz would be a good choice for the Supreme Court.

On a different note, I guess Ginsburg and Breyer can step down. 2016 looked uneventful for Obama, but now he can shape the court with Scalia's death and if Ginsburg and Breyer steps down and retires, Obama will be the most powerful president around for the Supreme Court appointments. Conservatives, be afraid.

Actually, I meant to say that NO Obama selection this year will be acceptable to the GOP base and woe to the Senator who goes into 'go along to get along' mode on this issue...Now consider the retirement season begins in June. What f another ancient Justice decides to retire?

The republicans need to stop ALL nominations for the rest of obama's term or all heck will break upon them.

Respect isn't in the leftist's dictionary. Take care of your own backyard first.

And that would weld the Christian Tea Party Base to the Trump/Perot insurgency. If George HW Bush could have managed that he would have served a second term.'

And I'm sure Trump would have no objection to nominating a Canadian to the bench. Let's see if he drops any hints along this line. In fact, with a Kasich Veep pick, he could probably pick up Ohio and the support of establishment Republicans. But if he secures the nomination, the Establishment is going to get behind him anyway. None of them seem particularly comfortable crossing the Trumpster.

Somewhere, perhaps, Dear Tony is wearing a (*)(*)(*)(*) eating grin.

Kasich may have his problems, but he was extraordinary on the budget during the Gingrich years and the balanced budgets that followed. If Paul Ryan re-discovers his inner fiscal discipline, this could be a winning combination, with Ryan shepherding the House, Kasich working as President of the Senate and Cruz on the Supreme Court.

I hope you are right but I wanted to stop the claim that this is unprecedented in its track...several lame duck nominations have been rejected or simply not considered in the last year of an unpopular President.

I agree, but, if he wants to use that to his advantage, he needs to pick someone very center of the isle that both sides have previously supported

then when the right blocks it, the repubs look like idiots....

Go ahead and block the president's nomination, you republican scumbags in congress. Show the world you are more concerned with partisan nonsense than following the constitution you are sworn to uphold.

Sorry crybaby conservatives, the president has an obligation to nominate a justice as soon as possible. 1/3 of our government not functioning is unacceptable for you to hold out hope some republican joker wins the presidency in November.

Edit: I see scumbag cruz has already called for the supreme court to remain impotent until a new president is elected. So much for a defender of the constitution.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE conservatives, stick your head in this noose by being the obstructions, party first hacks you are.

Stop (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)footing around, let us know what you really think

I think he did what he thought was right, that doesn't mean it was but it is the thing. you should do, say most.

If any pubs are waiting for the next Pres they should think on the fact that he/she is probably either going to be liberal or very liberal given the lineup of extremists they have now. It might be better to let Obama have it, as he's likely to swing more conservative in a attempt to get his choice through. A new Pres is very unlikely to compromise on that, looking at 4 years of power to push their selection.

I seem to recall LBJ nominating a fellow named Thornberry who was nominated in June of 68, 8 months before LBJ left office and the Senate taking no action at all. Just because the president nominates someone does not mean the senate has to do anything with the nomination...

I'm actually hoping Trump picks Nikki Haley for VP. She would have the same effect as Kasich and the other establishment candidates, but isn't bruised and battered from campaigning, and would do well with the women voters.

He only gets to shape the court if his nominations make it to the floor of the Senate, which they won't if the republican base has any say at all.

While the Senate is in GOP hands? Yeah, great idea, have them do that.

The 'leadership' in DC will need to make a decision, does one want to be considered 'idiots' by the left or does one want to be primaried in the next election by an irate base...

I am not a liberal, I am an anarchist, and yes I understand the Constitution, a hell of a lot better that Scalia ever did.
