For the good of the country, for the good of the world, the Republican Party as it is currently configured needs to be destroyed.

If the Republican party is destroyed it will be the 3rd major conservative party to do go down in U.S. history. The Federalist and the Whig party all went down for the count and out of their ashes sprung up a new party. Conservatives never have perennial support of the people!!!!!!!!!!!! The Democrats are the oldest political party in the USA.

I just don't think the right people are running. It could just be that I'm pulling for the GOP though.

It's not the people that are wrong, it's their philosophy.

As the left likes to point out when it's politically convenient, the Democrats have only been left-wing since the 60's. Before that it was the more conservative party.

You guys need to keep your talking points straight. Whenever someone points out that the Jim Crow Democrats and the Klan belonged to the Democratic Party we are reminded that there was a "switch" that took place during the 1960's.

no that is not what we say, we say we had more conservatives back then, but southern conservatives for the most part are republicans now, most democrats are liberals

1933 till 1968 conservatives were totally insignificant in this country
In fact during that period started a third party

As a backlash to the civil rights movement conservatives began to increase in power

The liberals and controlled the democratic party sense 1933
    Eisenhower was not a conservative

Both parties had members that were conservative or liberal on some issues
But both parties were left leaning

No, it's when they try and legislate their philosophy. For instance:

Abortion... You can't legislate your way into the good graces of those that think women should be able to choose. You'll never change that. You can only reshape society's opinion of abortion through meaningful education into what it actually entails & encouraging... no... championing real prevention methods.

If I heard a Republican say something like:

"Look, sex is going to happen. The GOP needs to realize that abstinence isn't conservatism, it's just a parental expectation. We sell sex on television, but expect our children to be angels. We need to be at the forefront of prevention methods, incentivizing companies to create worthwhile/practical prevention methods. No individual should have to choose between their livelihood and a new child, so we should encourage a kind of intimacy that doesn't give innocent children 50/50 odds before they even take their first breath... but we also must stand firm in the position that if you find yourself in a predicament, the Govt. can't help you. You can only help yourself."

... I'd be immediately intrigued and wanting more.

Instead, they're trying to close clinics under the guise of "we're trying to keep women safe". It's insulting, and an immediate turn off.

I'm not going to go into detail on every Republican view, but I used this example to say the GOP can live without completely abandoning it's views. In some instances, legislation simply isn't the answer.

Sounds good to me. Gotta balance out all those black supremacists and "si se puede" reconquistas that the Democratic Party likes to court.

The Democrats are in even worse shape. Republicans were at least smart enough to dump Jeb Bush, while Democrats had a sick old white woman most Democrats can't stand rammed down their throats.

Hillary Clinton's health is collapsing at the campaign proceeds, so extreme that they now have a doctor traveling with her and have to cancel events so she can take naps. Hacking cough on the stage. Losing her voice. On a lot of medications. The whole election picture changes if she publicly passes out, doesn't it?

There is a real prospect that none of the primary votes or caucuses will matter. Whether for health or emails, Hillary Clinton could be surprise eliminated. A deadlocked Republican convention is a possibility. If those 2 events happened, both party's candidates will singularly be picked by party elites - 100% exactly what people don't want.

Whereas the GOP has cleaned house and remade itself in 1964 and 1980, the Democrat party was hijacked by the radical left in 1972 by the counter-cultural "New Left" and have been in control for 44 years now. It obvious that it's the Democrats who need to clean house and remake itselve. The Democrat party has been stuck in the 1960's for over four decades now and needs to move into the 21st Century.

Kasich is sane. In this crowd, he stands alone. But if his campaign was going to catch fire, it would have done it by now.

    I don't want to see a one-horse race.

Yeah like "Hope and change you can believe in."

Or this one, "Al Qaeda is being decimated and it on the run."

Or, "If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor."

Democrats have switched the races they're defending, but they've always been about slavery, segregation, and special privileges like affirmative action. The Republican Party is the only major party in this country's history who has believed all races should be treated equal and is the only party that believes in that platform to this day.

The problem is that it's a flawed philosophy that attracts the wrong kind of candidates

One could argue that the Republican Party is the more liberal party. Free markets, freedom of religion, freedom of association, and right to bear arms are more liberal ideas than conservative ones. Using the state to force people to behave a certain way is more feudal. Freedom of speech is under attack from both parties whether it be censoring bad language or attempting to brand certain speech like anti-abortion statements as hate speech.

After the 19 28 election there was the strong fight between those on the right and those on the left in the democratic party
Those on the left won control of the democratic party
    And nominated Roosevelt president
Some say was a liberal some say he was a progressive

In 1947 when Harry Truman desegregated government workers and the military by executive order
pro segregationist in the democratic party withdrew from the party and formed their own political party
    The state's rights party

they joined the republican party in the 1960s

Senator Strom Thurmond was the states rights rights party Presidential candidate in 1948
