Pascal's Wager is strong with those people.
So what arguments do you use to COUNTER that irrational fear that you just mentioned?

One does not have to believe prophets predicted it to be a Christian nor does one have to believe that the whole Bible is the word of God.

Many Muslim drink alcohol. Some Muslim Countries such as Syria allowed alcohol consumption by the public.

Some Muslim Countries such as Syria went away from "Strict Sharia" . This is why the Sunni extremists including Al Qaeda hated the regime so much.

There is a difference between stated doctrine and what people believe. I never said anything about dogma itself. I was talking about what people practice. There is a difference between doctrine and practice.

Christian doctrine, all denominations accept that levitical law was the "direct word of God". This does not mean that Christianity as a whole practice/believe in these laws.

There is a difference between Church Doctrine and what people believe and practice. All Christian Doctrine accepts that God dictated OT Laws.

The way to counter the use of sophisticated mind control techniques/ "Dangerous Ideologies" is simply to educate - shed light on- bring these ideologies into open discussion.

Something which almost never happens in the mainstream media.

Keep in mind that "irrational fear" is not irrational to the adherent. They really believe that if they "question" or do not accept certain tenets of said "holy book" they will be roasted like a chicken in hell for eternity. Eternal punishment ... for ever and ever and ever ... is truly scary.

What is irrational is the idea that tenets of some book written thousands of years ago are beyond question.

To people that study indoctrination (Leading cult exit counselors like "Steve Hassan are worth a google) have a very good grasp on the ways in which indoctrination/mind control is accomplished.

Here is a brief summary of how folks are manipulated into "Killing for God" from a previous thread.

A few general Rules that would help make the world a better place are as follows:

    1) No Human Speaks for God (Not the Pope, not Imam and certainly not Pastor John at your local Church)

    2) There is a difference between having a belief and forcing that belief on someone else (everyone nods but few understand the depth of this creedo - which is a restatement of the Golden Rule)

    3) Heaven should be banned. This is more of a suggestion rather than a rule. No one knows what awaits us in the afterlife. Better to spend ones time making this world, a world that exists right here and right now, than worrying about what awaits in the afterlife.

If these principles, along with shedding light how the - Eternal Torture in the Afterlife doctrine- is a sophisticated indoctrination/mind control technique, were discussed in the open this would act as a powerful weapon against extremism.

The reason these things are not discussed in the open is because the method used in Islam is, in principle, exactly the same as in Christianity.

You don't know what you are talking about.. Muslims disagree on many beliefs in the Koran and Hadiths.

They may disagree on interpretation but NONE disagree that the Koran is the word of God given through Jibril to Muhammed in its entirity and every word is true. tell me the Muslim group that says otherwise.
