During his visit to Greece, Vladimir Putin said that Russia has no choice but to target Romania for opening a Nato missile defense base. He appears to be very pained about having to aim missiles at them or at anyone for that matter to preserve Russia's security.

“If yesterday people simply did not know what it means to be in the crosshairs in those areas of Romania, then today we will be forced to carry out certain measures to ensure our security. And it will be the same with Poland,” Putin said during a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Athens on Friday.

“At the moment the interceptor missiles installed have a range of 500 kilometers, soon this will go up to 1000 kilometers, and worse than that, they can be rearmed with 2400km-range offensive missiles even today, and it can be done by simply switching the software, so that even the Romanians themselves won’t know,” said Putin, who is in Greece for a two-day tour.

“We have the capability to respond. The whole world saw what our medium-range sea-based missiles are capable of [in Syria]. But we violate no agreements. And our ground-based Iskander missiles have also proven themselves as superb,” continued Putin.

I saw the Putin / Greek Guy interview live on RT.
    Just happened to catch it.

I do not understand why American foreign policy is bent
against Russia or what America would accept from Russia to be friendly.
    My guess is, nada.

Since the American Revolution, America has been anti Russia.
Poor Teddy Roosevelt having to wade the waters between Russia and Japan.
And he got the Nobel Peace prize for his diplomatic efforts.
Now if one of the sides had been French, Teddy's process would have been so much easier.

    Thus Spake Moi :worship:

Actually I read that the Russians had helped America quite a bit even during the revolution and were always on friendly terms. I think it was the British who were always threatened by the Russian Empire and it began to rub off on the Americans later on in the century... otherwise why would the British help the Ottoman Empire in the Crimean war if not to keep Russia from taking Constantinople and have control of the Bosporus?

There are also the anti Russian Eastern Catholic Europeans who began to immigrate here in large numbers, and they have a great deal of influence in the government. Biden is one of them and he carries Pennsylvania which is an Eastern Catholic stronghold.

Until Putin fires those missiles, it make zero difference. It's just strong talk.

I don't see any threat there. He is just informing the Romanian public in the most civilised way that their government (without people's permission) installed a military equipment on their soil targeting Russia. As a result your country has become a target for retaliation. Sorry folks, Russian government has nothing against you but it reserves the right to defend Russia against aggression.

Same goes for Poland or any other country which install offensive military hardware against Russia. Russian moves are purely defensive.

Also the message is clear. Forget about Crimea and move on.

Putin warns Romania and Poland that hosting US missile shield system puts them in Russia's cross-hairs

"As far as Crimea is concerned, we consider this question is closed forever," Putin said. "Russia will not conduct any discussions with anyone on this subject."

We're really retracing some lines on the map here, with mentions of Romania and Poland. I take Russia very seriously and I believe we should work to defuse the situation.

There is certainly nothing to be gained by another Cold War with Russia, and definitely not open conflict.

I recall reading that Poland was objecting to Washington about something, and suddenly a lawsuit for something like 350 billion against them was mentioned ... probably for the loss of property in WWII, and that was the end of that. There is a lot of bullying and blackmail involved to get the Eastern European governments to go along with Washington and Nato.

Everyone should take Russia seriously. According to the Saker who I believe is a Russian from Germany, and who has worked as a Western military analyst; "The Russians never make idle threats. They consider it a sign of weakness." So when they say something I would listen to it carefully...very, very carefully.

Unfortunately powers that be are doing exactly the opposite. Instead of defusing, they're adding fuel to the fire. I don't think this was a good idea. Not good idea at all. Time will tell.
